Heading out the door for my last whitetail sit of the year (or first sit of '09) as the season ends today. Temps in themid 20s, 17mph S wind and a couple inches of snow on the ground. Heading to a normally late season hotspot for the first time this year. Hope it pays off.

Well I wish I had a pic to post, but hopefully in the morning. I had two young does come in with 10 minutes left in legal hunting hours on the very last day. The hit was a little far back but we have a good idea where she is bedded.

Well we found her. No way of sugar coating it, I just made a bad shot. She was quatering away at 24 yards and I hit low. The forecast was calling for snow around midnight so we went in at 10:30 (5 hours after the hit) to look. We found her bedded and alive. We tried toback out but she got nervous and walked off. I woke up this morning to see we had no snow accumulation which was a relief. She wasn't hard to find this morning as she was still bleeding after we bumped her. She made it another 100 yards before lying down again. She's not very big and the shot didn't go the way I planned, but it has been a few years since I took a deer on new year's day and I'm happy. Here is my first deer of '09! Only 9 more months until the season opens again.
