Stupid Cold Bowhunting
#11
I love huntin' in this cold weather. It was 18 when I went in yesterday evening and when I got out it had dipped down to 15...the only thing that was cold on me was my big toes. Cuz, once you see Mr. Big...you ain't concerned one lick about the cold!

I feel ya. I was out yesterday and just about froze both my cheeks off. 7 degrees, -13 wind chill. But it had the deer moving that for sure. Thank god for handwarmers

Yup, the cold is cold on the deer too. They'll move when the temps are warmer to conserve body heat and energy. Look for them at mid day or the warmer part of the afternoon. You have to sacrifice the scent bit a little when it's fridgid. Do the chemical packs and all that. I have some inserts that you put chemical heaters in place in your boots. It really helps to keep the trunk and the feet warm as well as the head. Balclavas are a necessity and sometimes I double them. Sims rubber wraps on bowhandles are helpful. Do isometrics and pull the bow every half hour or so.

MeanV ..you are right on....I killed a doe midday 2 weeks ago...feeding is scarce and our Mich. deer are out to eat...snow depth = 16 inches. They're grazing all over ...on the sides of the main hignways....winter is on...food source is scarce.
