If it had to happen.

If it had to happen.... Your boss says to you were going to give you 7 figures to pick a place to live and it can be anywhere in the world. Assuming your thinking bowhunting at the time, and the work wouldnt consume nearly any time at all. What place would you live, State, City, County, if youve got a place itching at you or whatever post it lets see where it would be for what people.
(Skys the limit on this one you can live where ever you want keep in mind this is an ideal situation)

Ryan.

Anywhere there is deer, elk, bear, antelope, possibly moose. Sort of gets old just hunting whitetail.

No lie....the very first day I lived out there I was in our bathroom in the guide bunkhouse in the Tom Miner basin at about 6,000ft and as I brushed my teeth that morning I looked into the back yard, at a small band of Bighorn sheep AND a group of elk just beyond them. LOL
I used to go to bed at night cursing the elk to shut up so I could fall asleep. :D

What a place........and bring your flyrod!:)

Probably western Montana or Northern Idaho. Missouri would be given some consideration too.

Central New Mexico....dont have to drive far in any direction to get to different types of hunting. Go east for prairie dogs and yotes and antelope, west and north for bears, mountain lions, mulies, sheep, elk.............south for white tails.

I would live in my hometown and just travel to all the different hunting destinations with a seven figure paycheck.

I'd have to say Wyoming. Can hunt it all there:). If I focused on whitetails, I'd be heading to Muhlenburg (sp?) County Kentucky

RE: If it had to happen.

I would live right where I do now.....however, I would get rid of all the darn cows and a majority of the cropland and plant trees in the pastures. Then I would be able to pass on a 140" class deer because I would be able to hold more on our property. I have no interest in hunting other animals, I enjoy ducks, deer, and turkeys...That takes up enough time. And I flyfish around 100 days each summer. That's enough to keep me happy.

I've lived in Missouri and Illinois. I think I would choose San Diego. Snow/ice/tornadoes suck, so I'll choose a nice climate. With that income, I could pay to hunt wherever I want.[8D]

Just to stir the pot a little...I hope you're not insinuating that S.C. could possibly have better saltwater fishing than N.C.?

Don't get me started on that one lol......Id like to know the last 800lb+ marlin from SC...the last blitz of big (40"+) red drum of hmmm small proportions, 100 fish in a couple hours, last bluefish blitz pushing bunker and trout on the beach, last striper slitz doing the same as the previous mentioned....I could go on and on......can't think of anything in the salt that SC has that NC doesnt have and better! lol

Grew up and went to college in San Diego. Great fishing especially if you go a little south to Mexico. As far as hunting, there are some desert Mule deer, Desert Big Horns, and Hogs. Not my place to live for hunting, but its my home and I miss surfing in the sun everyday. And the other activities

I would Say Wyoming!! Got it all! Hunting, Fishing, Snowboarding, room to roam, and if im making 7 figures a house in Costa Rica too, need to surf and be in the tropics too.

I would love to live in Montana, North Dakota, etc. I would love to move away from this hectic place called Northern Virginia. To find a place where people are respectful of one another, with a close knit community where my kids could live and learn would be magical. Add in the bounty of the land and I would be in heaven. Oh yeah, wherever I lived I would buy my wife a beautiful white farm house with a large front porch. :)

Here would be one of the house on my property:

Holy cow, noone has picked Alaska? I am shocked. They have something in season 365 days a year. Halibut size of cars. Moose well over 1500lbs, blacktail deer, monster blackies, Caribou.

Internationally- New Zealand. But I wouldnt move out of the USA for ANYTHING.

So, that leaves me with a wild dream of Alaska, but I dont think I could just pack up ship and head THAT far away from everything I know. I'd rather live somewhere like NM, WY, MT, etc. and just make trips to AK and heck everywhere from there.

Im fine with KY and will likely stay here for a long time to come.

Saskatchewan Canada, but that would cost me a divorce. ;)Monster big woods bucks/butted up against farm country and little to nothing in regards to human population. I like the cold too, I could whitetail hunt, snowmobile and shed hunt there till I died.

iamyourhuckleberry 12-17-2008 12:21 PM

RE: If it had to happen.

Trevor,

Yeah, living in New Zealand would be a trip! That place has the friendliest people on the Planet! Everything is clean and crisp-the way Colorado use to be before the other 4 million people moved in. The fishing there is world class and so is the hunting. NZ would be my second choice.

I would enjoy Alaska also if it weren't so dark in the winter months. Twenty hours of daylight, yeah; two to four hours....HELL NO!

I selected Africa over Colorado (I have a lot right in my own backyard-10 big game animals and tons of fishing) because there is just that much more to hunt there (84 species of antelope alone). Home is where the heart is. Colorado will always be home.

If I have a seven figure job and plenty of time to hunt, then Fort Walton Beach Florida.

My family could enjoy the beach, while I was out running all over the country hunting.

Not insinuating anything....but either coast you're 50 mi. from blue water.....and a lot of times fishing the same haunts.

I also wouldn't LIVE on the water..so that's why Charelston got the nod from me. I've lived in Charleston. Duck hunting is outstanding. Ditto turkeys. The town is a WONDERFUL place.....AND (get this!) you can hunt on Sundays!

I was spot on, for ME.

Curious, why did you move? My fiance and I debated whether (rather if push comes to shove down the road) we would rather move to NC or SC. SC was our preference.

So to keep this ontopic, probably SC or NC (I'm being a really odd duck here I know, but I like those states, and wouldn't mind moving there regardless of income, but if I was making high seven figures, I could fly back to PA when I wanted).

I moved because my company was trying to relocate me back to Charlotte. I'd have chosen (how many cities are there in the US?) MANY, MANY places I'd rather live. I came back to NC on my terms....and not to Clt.

I may live in Charleston, again. I've got a few (very few) acres in Awendaw....about 14 mi. north of Mt. P.

Probably SW Iowa, right in the corner of Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska and MO. Some great hunting there... Get resident tags in Iowa every year and enjoy MO and NE over the counter tags, not to mention KS every other year.

I feel bad for some of the states that diddnt even get mentioned ;)

I may jump onto the alaska boat. Idk however. Seems fun but who knows maybe not so much a friend of mine said there's a lot of gangs in anchorage and juno alaska

I'm not all about that personally.

I'm only 18 so its time to start those thoughts.
