Default What do you do when you find a climber stand on your property?

I found a very nice summit climbing stand on our property this AM. I thought it was perhaps near a property line, but after studying the aerials- he hiked way back in and put a stand on our tree. How have you guys handled this when it happened to you.

Do you call the sheriff?, leave a note on the stand with a deadline?

Thanks for the help

When you say "Our property" do you own it ? Lease it? Or just have permission to hunt it?

We have found 2 in the last 5 years or so. Both were taken down and brought to the farmers house (my uncle). A note was left saying where it was and if they wanted it they could come and get it from him. One guy did and he got a very plain explanation of why it was taken down, and the other one is still sitting in the shed.

I'd take the stand.....and leave a note on the tree telling him where he could pick it up.

I would follow Ill's advise. Take it, and leave a note on when you can be reached. Have a little talk with the person.

Could be an innocent mistake. But make sure you have your ducks in a row. My nieghbor got us permission to hunt some property behind our houses. We thought sure we knew the boundries from stakes that were drove in. I reported I saw another (not liked) neighbor walking thru trespassing. We had the police out there, and it ended up being we were wrong on the property boundries. So some good ole crow was on the menu.

A very good point. The guy I told about having to come get his stand said he didn't know he was across the line. It was hisfirst season hunting the neighbors land and he probably just got mixed up. He was only about 70 yards across the fence.

There's a lot to be said for diplomacy.

I agree about the diplomacy...A bit touchy in my situation as we are the "out of town" property owners that don't make it down very often.
