and Ive got a cool little ipe/bamboo, white oak job just pulled out of the oven getting ready for tillering and a rattle snake skin backing. As well as a few more Ipe, boo bows as well and one osage boo.
Sweet Burnie.

I need to take better pics of my selfbows. Its hard to get a decent pic of a bow that long. The pics I posted were my daughters bow.
I can relate. Its hard to get 70" or so, on pic. It looks real good. I can see a little snakeyness towards the end. I saw a Juniper selfbow a man made and backed it with sturgeon skin. It also had a really cool bend in the handle that made a perfect, natural shelf.

Burnie,
I've seen a few with sturgeon on them. It looks cool. My osage hunting bow has copperheads on it. It has the snakey look to back it up too. I've yet to make meat with it though. Maybe late season. I need to fling a few to feel comfortable again. But I'm getting the itch again.

Nice Bob!

I think we've probably officially hijacked the thread....but.....he did ask for bow pics.

Anyway... I love building them. If I had a good place for a shop and time I would build alot more. Its very satisfying to me to get one to the point of flinging the first arrow, and then finishing it off.

I love cooper head backing. I think it is the best looking of all the snake skins. Too bad we dont have many cooper heads around here. And the ones I find, are always to small. It would take 4 to cover one 66" bow.

That tiller is not looking bad at all. loosen a few flat spots and you will have a shooter in not time. Flat spots are so much easier to fix than hinges.

I have to ask, did you reflex the whole limb on that bow. I ask because I noticed the caul to the right. It looks like a form for just reflexing the whole limb.

I hope the boo on that bow was ugly, because that would be a waste of sturgeon to cover up good looking bamboo.

My bow is on it in the picture and you are exactly right, the entire length has a backset to it. You can also see the heat gun (blue) on the ground in the pic.

Below is a wonderful pic of me working it, had a real nice character knot to deal with. No time to remove face makeup from the morning hunt.
