A clear sky has made it easy to check out the glowing satellite as it travels across a backdrop of stars. Tonight, the moon is at perigee, its closest distance to the Earth during its orbit around our world. Because it is so close to the Earth, the moon appears larger. The moon's average distance from the Earth is about 238,855 miles (384,400 km). Tonight it is just 221,560 miles (356,567 km) away. It will be 14 percent bigger in the sky and 30 percent brighter than some other full moons during the year, according to NASA. The moon's proximity to Earth also will affect tides, pulling the tide higher than normal between an inch and six inches. Every month, the oblong lunar orbit brings the moon closer to Earth, but this year the moon is full just four hours after hitting perigee. That means it will be 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than any other full moon this year. The full moon at perigee won't occur again until 2016. |

RE: Last nights moon
YUP, I was talking about it earlier in the day. With the snow cover you could see for hundreds of yards. Would have been the night to do some coyote calling except it was colder than heck... minus one this AM

RE: Last nights moon

RE: Last nights moon
I came home from work last night around 11 and went into the shop to tinker with my dirtbike. i messed with it for a while, and decided to take it down the road a few times to adjust (live in the middle of nowhere/ no neighbors). It was bright enuff to easily see without lights and i rode through my yard tooand could see[:-]

RE: Last nights moon
Same here. Went out this morning and saw nothing. Went out this afternoon with the clouds and wind and deer were crazy, all over the place. Passed on a doe hoping one of the two nice bucks would show.

RE: Last nights moon
I figured it would be crap deer hunting, so I went coyote hunting instead...killer morning. Called in 3 in the first three setups.

RE: Last nights moon
Did the same thing, decided to go out anyway. Didn't see a darn thing. But hey, it was still a day in the woods.
