From personal experience. The more skilled I became the luckier I got.

Location and timing are also very important...

I've got a friend that has hunted with me the past 2 years...Last year, I put him on one of our stands that is known to produce good bucks the first 2 weeks in November...

This was the 9th of November...Within 30 minutes, he killed a nice 11 pointer with an 18 inch inside spread...This year, I put him on the same stand on the 3rd of November, he killed an 8 point with a 19 inch inside spread, again within 30 minutes...

Now, this guy had only killed 3-4 deer in his life before that...Certainly he did good because he closed the deal...But he was in the right location at the right time...We've owned this farm since 1976, so we have a pretty good history of what can happen when the time isright...

I voted more skill then luck. I've got some good buddy's of mine that hunt some prime whitetail grounds. Were talking booners in some of these areas. They don't have a clue on what there doing. Never have any of these friends of mine saw a buck bigger then 130" while bow hunting In all the years they've been hunting these spots. Every year they find a shed or two scoring anywhere from 60" to 80". This summer my buddy had a 170"+ targeted all summer on his trail cam damn near at the same time every 2 days. He also had 3 to 4 130" to 140" bucks on cam. He never saw any of these bucks. Why didn't he? He put allot of time In but he doesn't have a clue on what he's doing.

More skill than luck.

I see big deer every year. Ok, i don't shoot big deer every year, but i manage to get them into bow range... Needless to say i am getting better though. My luck is the worst ever and i still shoot deer.

i chose neither, its about management, being able to afford to control everything by spending lots of money and time, and plotting a good spot
