The best bows out there...
I personally think that the best bows are the oldest bows possible. They've been broken in- heck, they're even better if they've been broken in the past! They've got heart and soul and makes the shooter better. I learned on an old long bow. Much better than mostpeople with one of those high-tech bows with all the bells and whistles on it. I once knew a guy that wouldn't shoot his bow anymore because he didn't have a peep sight. Another guy wouldn't take his bow out until he got a little wrist sling. GEEZ people... when did the skill go out of bow hunting? I personally useda bottom of the barrel low-tech cheap bow that wasn't even a brand name and was about 10 years old at the time. I took a beautiful buck with that bow! At what point does the shooter rely so heavily on technology that he's inept to shoot without it?

RE: The best bows out there...
It lets you trust your bow no doubt. With an old bow you used your whole life you know exactly where it is gonna shoot every time. Sure some of the new stuff is really nice....but necessary?

RE: The best bows out there...
I got my first deer, a doe, with a 30 pound pull, Pro-line that we bought at a yard sale for $35. (For anyone about to go ape over this, there is no minimum draw weight in Michigan and I am very small.)

If you can't stick a deer without hundreds of dollars in equipment
you may as well get yourself a scopedrifle. |

IF I may... I will add that I think it is entirely more possible to take a better buck with an older bow. [8D]

RE: The best bows out there...
you don't need a new bow at all, I have one b/c I like to shoot the new bows better than my old ones...they are just smoother and more accurate....but they don't need to be used to get the job done...

Look at the animals that Fred Bear shot with the equipment he used. Are we below him in hunting standards due to the fact of the "Cadillacs" we now shoot today? |

My bow was once expensive, now its not worth much. Not sure where I stand.:D

RE: The best bows out there...
I can't believe people even spend money on bows. I made my best bow out of a BBQ fork and a bungee cord.
Granted, it only had a range of about 8 & 1/2 feet, but with my skills, that's all I needed. |

I would put my old PSEup against some of these guys with these new Bowtechs anyday!:D Sounds to melike you have Bow envy. Why name Bowtech specifically? Personally I have a Bowtech and I am confident in my ability with it. It may not be as new as some but it is an 06. I guess according to you I am Keeping Up With The Jones'. Nice generalization on your part. How's the handshock on that old bow of yours? Noise? Whatever.... |

RE: The best bows out there...
I have an old 1954 Bear longbow... That one will work for deer I assure you.
Your right you don't need the newest thing to hit the market. I got cought up in that once though I never had the money to buy much. Untill my most recent bow, all my bows cost me around 100 bucks. the bow I recently replace cost me 100 on clearance at walmart 14-15 years ago. I have killed many deer with it. My new bow cost me 3 times that. But it still is not the other end of the scale for sure. Heck I make my own osage selfbows. They will kill deer too. And they only cost me the sweat it takes to make them... However, If someone has the money and wants to keep up with the newest latest gizmos in archery...More power to them... I have no need in shooting 350 fps. I just don't. But I think its rather cool people have made an industry designing an selling bows that advance every year, at least in speed. Remember overdraws. How many people shot those. Raise your hands (mine is) I've spent my fair share on gizmos...I'll let someone else support the industry now. And to behonest...Thats good for our sport.Gaining bow hunterswill keep us able to hunt in the future. |
