As a parent of a 1 and a half year old daughter that was diagnosed with Leukemia, I can honestly say that this is the most helpless and devastating feelings that one can imagine. The fear of the unknown and the uncertainty of the outcome is something that will tear your guts out if you let it. I know firsthand that the power of prayers is something that is real and the prayers do work. Here's proof, she just turned 6 this past November:

What a great story. It reminds me of the stories we'd hear in college each year at Penn State when we would do the annual Dance Marathon. The students of Penn State would raise money for kids with cancer each year and have dance marathon for 48 hours where student from each organization would stay awake and on their feet the entire 48 hours. At the end parents would come up and share stories like the one above, although not all had such a happy ending. By the end of the stories there was not a dry eye in the room.

This story of Sarah reminds me of Madision, the little girl we sponsored for dance marathon. She too beat cancer with hope and help from the Big Guy Upstairs.

What a cutie Simp! Iknow she's spoiled rotten! Name please!

My seven yearold (Cory) goes under the knife @ 2:00 pm Monday. The stroke he had in uterus has caused the muscles in his legs to atrophy. As a result, his femur bones, on both sides, have twisted inward (24 degrees on the left, 30 degrees on the right). Surgeons will cut both femur bones right below his hip joint, and then re-align his femurs in their correct position. They are also going to cut and lenghten his right calf and hamstring muscles. All this surgery will supposedly make his gait more efficient and will eliminate future knee and hip problems. He will be placed in a hip spica cast (mid-chest down both legs to his toes. A stick will hold his legs apart, at the ankles,by two feet) for six to eight weeks. All this will be followed by six months of physical therapy. The dynamics in my house are about to change dramatically!

I am sure you are with me when I say, "don't take the little things for granted". They should be cherished!

Man I don't know what to say. I couldn't help but tear up as I read that story.

And I'm smiling thinking about Simp's little girl there. Sick young ones is such a hard thing. I spent a few days in the NICU with my son when he was only hours old. What a nightmare. We were fortunate but other people in there had things much worse than us. My son is fine but we did a ton of praying as did our church. I believe the doctors can only do so much. God can do it all.

Will, I'll be praying for your son. I can't stand for children to be sick. But I can't do much other than pray for them to get them well.

Wow thats a sad story, got me teary eyed half way through it. Simp that is great to hear that your daughter is healthy and winning the fight, my little four year old cousin was diagnosed 2 years ago with an extremely rare brain cancer. All the kids that have had it have unfortunately passed away but he has been beating it so far and hopefully he will live a long and healthy life and be the first to overcome this cancer. Also good luck to your son huckleberry , hope all goes well!

Oops! Sorry for not giving a name! Her name is Pippy, and yes, she's about as spoiled as one gets!:DBut as long as she's healthy I can overlook it.:D

Huckleberry, I sincerely hope that everything goes as well as it can go withCory's surgery. Sure, things will changeand those things we do everyday that seem so easy will be hard to do for a while, but God doesn't give us more than we can take, I believe. Prayers sent!
