RE: Antler envy and hunter hate.
I think the people who are jealous just see a lucky guy standing next to a big rack and wish they had that kind of luck. When the truth is, just below that rack there should be a disclaimer that says, I spent 70 hours in stand to get this animal, I walked 24 miles in those 70 hours to get him. And I spent X amount of hours and X amount of dollars scouting him over the summer.
When I see a large deer killed on here, those are the first things I think about. I know most of the guys that get them did put in hard work to get him. I am happy for them, and it just reminds me that to get the big boys, you have to put in plenty time and make sacrifices. Just my 2 cents. |
RE: Antler envy and hunter hate.
I like Buckmasters post a lot.
I have nojealousy of any one. Some of that comes with maturity some people never get to a point where they rid themselves of envy or jealousy. It is most people's nature to desire being considered competent or successful at things that are important to them.Hunting is no different. The most important thing for me is measuring up to what I expect of myself.I have no interest or concern with what others perception may be,and I don't mean that in a nasty way! As it relates to the feelings that are directed toward other successful or seemingly successful hunters in our own communities,we should be fair about the things we think much less say about others. Are some of the people that kill big deer year in and year out poachers? Yes some of them are, some of them are just darn good dedicated hunters.I am comfortable with my ability to make the distinction between the two. |
RE: Antler envy and hunter hate.
Because it is easier to hate, then to kill.

Gene Wensel once saidthat you're only as good as the land you're on When peopleequate the fact that I take several deer per season with the fact that I have a large deer herd.....I just agree with them. Sure...I had to make the shots....but if they weren't there I could make them appear through any amount of hard work. I don't think Gene, Jay or "most" people in these forums mean anything "offensive" when such things are said. I'm not singling out anyone for any other reason than to give credit where it's due.....but Greg's done a wonderful thing in securing some (he'll admit to) PRIME whitetail grounds.I give him credit for that AND for making it happen at crunch time. Same thing could be said for a LOT of people in this forum and around the country. Nothing but congrats, from me.....on ALL accounts. Does jealousy rear its' head from time to time? Sure. And....you don't have to have P&Y's on your wall to be the target of it. |

ORIGINAL: PreacherTony ORIGINAL: 130woodman x2 ORIGINAL: cooter144 ORIGINAL: buckeye Why does the success of another hunter so many times turn into a behind the back flogging? I've know for a long time that for some reason there is a lot of jealousy in this sport. How many times have you heard someone say....."Well I or Joe Blow could do that too if....." rather than "wow, good for him"? |

RE: Antler envy and hunter hate.
Plain and simple................. jealousy. I'm jealous as hell but will be the first to congratulate and be genuinely happy for that persons accomplishments. I'd rather use a person like that as a source of information rather than get in a pissing match with them. Matter of fact those people drive me more to become better. Prime hunting land or not... doesn't really matter. They happen to be there and you're not. Get over it or change it. The fact remains they are putting down the animals that they are. There really are no what ifs. It is what it is be happy for them.

I'd rather use a person like that as a source of information rather than get in a pissing match with them. That's the first time I've ever quoted myself. Feels kind of weird.[8D] |
RE: Antler envy and hunter hate.
I will be the first to admit I am jealous as heck at some of the bucks I see on here and wish I could get access to property to held such beasts. However, I don't hold that against any of the guys sitting behind those deer. In fact, I'm always one to congratulate a hunter on success regardless of the buck in the picture.
What I don't get is how someone goes from, "man, I wish I could shoot a buck like that too," to "man, that guy that shot that buck is a jerk because he has access to property that hold those kind of deer." How does that happen?[&:] |
