RE: Did hunting take over, for you ?

I've gone at this pretty heavy.

In the past....I've done the following:

1. College baseball.....and I never hunted once during those years.....except for the occasional dove hunt.
2. Golf - Went at this just as hard....and went from an 8 hcp to almost a +3 in about 7 yrs.
3. Waterfow hunting/dog training - self trained my lab to her Master Hunter status....and learned more about duck hunting in a short time than I ever thought I could.
4. Competitive Softball - After not touching a bat for11 years....I joined a few teams and finally hooked up with some guys who put together a 1998 Nat. Championship team. We played 250+ games in '98 and probably that many in '99 (finishing 5th nationally in our first year in the new classification) (moved up).
5. Golf - again. Picked up the clubs again after a 7 yr hiatus and got back to scratch pretty quickly. I qualified second for my state mid-am a few years ago. I went....played my ass off....made the cut....then finished middle of the pack. I realized I wasn't willing to dedicate enough time to be as competitive as I knew I could be......so I laid them down, again. I'll pick them back up when I'm older.....and more willing to put in that sort of time.
6. Bowhunting - I've been a bowhunting/deer huntingsponge for knowledge since I first picked up a bow in Oct. of '05. I see the day coming when this slacks off a LOT and I don't HAVE to put as much into it to get as much (more?) out of it....in reference to results.

I also was a single man for 39yrs......and that fact allowed me to pursue all of these passtimes with the vigor I did. It's also the reason I'll slack off deer hunting (timewise) in the future. My wife and son are my life. They've taken a small backseat role during the deer seasons I'v ehunted.....but not much. I still vacation and share time with both of them at every chance.

Come 12/20.....I'll put my bow in the closet and not touch it until late March. It's taken me a while to get "here"......and "here' will involve WAY less time in future years.

School suffers :D
It is the reason I dont play football anymore, and the same reason I really dont fish in the fall.

I still play baseball. But I have NO life whatsoever outside of hunting, when it's deer season.

Rory, if I had all of the property you do, I would be out doing things to enhance my hunting experience ALL YEAR.
Anthony, that'll be the case come February, when I can drive. Trust me. I get sick of sitting around doing stuff, when I want to be out in the woods hanging a stand, clearing shooting lanes, etc.

I pretty much grew up hunting in the fall/winter. I guess I never tried out for the basketball team in HS because I wanted to bow hunt instead.
