My dad's 2008 Minnesota bear
 

Finally my dad sent me some pictures of his bear he shot this year In September bear hunting with his longbow. I had to scan the picture's so there not as nice looking as they should be. He shot the bear only a few days after I had left so I wasn't able to get In on all the high fiving and stuff. The bear dressed out at 240lbs. He's got a nice head on him and should have no problem making P&Y. I'm thinking he'll go right at 19" or a tad smaller. 18" Is the minimum for P&Y. The bear was at 10 yards when he zipped him from his tree stand. He then ran about 175 yards and there he layed. He caught one lung and the heart. I'm really surprised the bear went as far as It did. He got a complete pass through using XX75 1916 Aluminum arrows tipped with 130 grain Magnus II vented 2 blade's. He's pulling right around 57lbs I believe.

It's definitely challenging but man Is It exciting Dan, and I mean exciting!! Weren't you going to do this some this year? Or was It next year? Dan, you'll be doing jumping jacks and cart wheels when you get that 1st traditional kill!! Hell I still do It and I've shot a quite of few.:D

Steve i was going to try it this year. The only thing i didnt do yet was get good broadheads for it. I think ill feel better about it next season after practicing all summer ;)it aint over!!

Predator I believe Don. I've got the same thing and I just went to look to make sure that's what It Is but I couldn't find anything on It. It's a fleece, very quite and fairly warm.

You know, a buddy of mine whois a whitetail bowhuntertried black bear with a shotgunonce and he said the rush between the two just does not compare. The black bear leaves the whitetail in the dust. He said he was shaking so bad on the shot he almost couldn't hold the gun steady. Also that if it had been with a bow, he probably couldn't have pulled his bow. I can only imagine!

I've been shooting them (2314's) since I started bowhunting in the 70's. I just recently learned that they started making them wayback in the mid 50's!

That is awesome, especially with a long bow.. Like Bloodcrick said.... very impressive with a long bow. It makes me want to set a goalof taking an animal with trad. equipment. If I had more deer under my belt with a compound, I'd set that goal a lot sooner..
