Default Wisconsin Boys question for you

[align=left]me and my friend at school are having a three day long argument about hunting with a bow during the gun season.

I say you can if you are in blaze orange. I asked him why would the DNR care whether you shoot a deer with a gun at 200 yards or with a bow at 20 yards.

He says why would they stop the bow season for those nine days because of gun hunting, and he says it is gun only

Who is right? i will show him this tomorrow with all the answers.

From what I read in the regulations bowhunting does stop for the 9 day gun season and begins again with muzzleloader season. Archery season Sept.13-Nov.20 & Dec.1-Jan.4.

I was always under the impression that you could not bowhunt during the 9 day rifle season. However, I watched the pbs special on Wis. Deer Hunting and the DNR rep said that you could if you were in blaze orange. I am still uncertain because DNR has been mistaken with their own regs before. I am fairly certain you can bowhunt during muzzleloader season and assume you need to be in blaze for that as well but not 100% sure on that. I just wait until they are both over and can't get in trouble. For some reason I havea problem with bowhunting in blaze orange, it just seems wrong.

You can bowhunt in the CWD units with a bow during gun season. Regular units are closed to bowhunting during the gun season as it should be! You can also bowhunt during the muzzleloader season wearing blaze orange, I personally wish the season was muzzleloader only! The bowseason is plenty long enough, I feel the muzzleloader guys should have their own season! JMO!

The antlerless only hunt (with any weapon) Dec. 11-14th seems real stupid to me. I can shoot a doe any other time of the season. Just seems dumb

I called the DNR last year on this and I never got a straight answer. But from the way the law is writtenYou can use a bow durning the gun season but you must have a gun tag. Then there are laws about what size weapons you can use for gun season and a bow is not mentioned in those laws. Ask 3 wardens and use the best 2 answers.

That's not right Dan. You only need a bow tag. As Joe already said, bow is allowed only in CWD units during any gun season. You just have to be in blaze. All regular, metro, non-CWD EAB, andherd reduction zones are closed to bow when any gun season is in progress.

edit: watch out for the dec 11-14 antlerless only hunt. Even if you are hunting in the CWD units with a bow, you are still restricted to only antlerless just like the gun hunters.
