ORIGINAL: Hoytail Hunter ORIGINAL: 130woodman I called the DNR last year on this and I never got a straight answer. But from the way the law is written You can use a bow durning the gun season but you must have a gun tag. edit: watch out for the dec 11-14 antlerless only hunt. Even if you are hunting in the CWD units with a bow, you are still restricted to only antlerless just like the gun hunters. ... and you have to wear blaze orange if bowhunting! |
RE: Wisconsin Boys question for you
Hue you are right but most of the state is not CDW zone. Which what I said is true.

RE: Wisconsin Boys question for you
When I called the dnr about it I got 2 differant answers. 1 said you need a valid license to hunt in gun season your gun license, and nothing about which weapon you hunt with.. The other said you have to follow the gun laws which states thesize of gun you can use.The law said nothing about using a bow so as far as I know there is no law that says you can't use a bow but you are not following the law if you take a bow because of the gun law. I hope you can follow this it's kinf of confusing and I know I'm not explaining it well.

Dan, that to me sounds like the typical uninformed/misinformed answer you would get from the DNR. Simply looking at the open close dates in the regulatons, a bow is only allowed in CWD zones during the gun hunts.Bow is closed in all other zones during any gun hunt so by logical deduction, actually it doesn't even take logical deduction, it's obvioius you don't need a gun tag to bowhunt because you can't legally hunt there with a bow anyway.
I wonder how many people have gotten in trouble because the ladies at the DNR gave people wrong, misworded, misleading information. |

Hoyt, you nailed it on the head.

RE: Wisconsin Boys question for you
OMFG.....don't you people read the regs?? it clearly states which dates and weapons can be used and in what zones they are allowed at what times....they broke it down VERY clearly on pages 18-21 of the 2008 Wisconsin Deer Hunting Regulations book you get with your licenance.
For instance...in my area which is unit 69, a herd control unit: Gun Deer Seasons oct. 11-12 youth gun deer hunt oct. 16-19 anterless deer only nov. 22-30 one buck per unused gun buck deer tag & additional anterless per unused anterless or herd control tag dec. 11-14 anterless deer only Archery deer seasons sep. 13-oct 15 one buck per unused archery buck deer tag & additional anterless per unused anterless or herd control tag oct. 16-19 anterless deer only oct.20-nov. 20 one buck per unused archery buck deer tag & additional anterless per unused anterless or herd control tag dec. 1-dec 10 one buck per unused archery buck deer tag & additional anterless per unused anterless or herd control tag dec 11-dec 14 anterless only dec 15-jan 4 2009 one buck per unused archery buck deer tag & additional anterless per unused anterless or herd control tag Muzzleloader deer season dec 1-dec 10 one buck per unused gun buck deer tag & additional anterless per unused anterless or herd control tag As for the blaze requirements: Blaze Orange Requirements In any area of the state where a firearm deer season is open (including the regular 9-day hunt, muzzleloader season, October 11–12 Youth Hunt, October and December 4-day antlerless only hunts, or CWD hunts), no person may hunt any game, except waterfowl, unless at least 50% of the person’s outer clothing above the waist is colored blaze orange. A hat, if worn, must be at least 50% blaze orange. Faded or stained blaze orange clothing is unsafe and may not meet law requirements. Camo-blaze that is 50% blaze orange is legal, but is not as visible as solid blaze clothing. 100% solid blaze orange is recommended. Note: Blaze orange requirements do not apply to those hunters participating in legal night hunting (i.e. raccoon) from ½ hour after sunset to ½ hour before sunrise. New in 2008, all ground blinds used on DNR-controlled lands during any gun deer season must now display a minimum of 144 square inches of solid blaze orange material that is visible 360 degrees around the blind. Also, all unoccupied ground blinds on DNR lands must have the owner’s customer ID number or name and address attached in a manner that is visible and legible. Exception: blinds which are being used for waterfowl hunting. Ya'll need to read the regs better before you go out or ya just might get in trouble....sheesh.;):D |
