Maybe someone can tell me why someone would be so stupid not to wear orange during firearms season??? Deer can't see it. Deer see more in the ultra violet spectrum. Not more towards the infared. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid people can be not wearing a safety strap or wearing orange with people firing guns off around them.

If you use a head lamp, and not a spot light....

Is it still poaching?

Jeff,

I don't know what was said between you and BJ. I'm sure it was nothing too deathly serious like all things that are said over the www. I was just taken aback by what I initially thought was a serious question (my inherent nature for taking things face value) landing me here, netting me a little chuckle.

Thanks guys!

Good question Kyle, ive heard you dont even need a flashlight to gut your deer, dirty (yet handy)poacher!

Is shooting one out of the truck window ok? That's what I've always done when I got bored.

I think if you look into the law further it says you don't have to wear orange if you wear brown along with an antler hat and hang a white hanky out of your back pocket. Good luck hunting. Let us know how you do!

Don't kid yourself, putting one down before season for you would be like a 3 legged dog climbing a tree...it ain't happening.[8D]

Don't let Al fool ya either, he is a master shed hunter...next time ask him to give his buck a good hard shake just before the photo...walaa, we have a doe hero shot with two sheds on the ground.:D

I killed my buck during gun season with my bow. I had an orange cap and vest on, but took it off for the pic because it looks goofy....SUE ME. lol

Is this illegal too then? My pics are from 3.5 hours after I released the arrow, same day...GASP, no orange in my photos either.
If the orange regs are in effect and you are still in the woods with that deer and a weapon then yes...thats illegal.

Not trying to be a prick but it is.

Arrest me then. I removed my orange for 5 minutes while standing over my dead deer. There isn't a GW around here who would write a ticket for that...this all assuming your right in the first place on this. I don't know for sure, so won't argue it one way or the other.

Where do the woods end? What if I am in my backyard with my deer and bow..must the orange still be worn? In my truck (bow in backseat, deer in bed)? I have a knife in my hand as I butcher the deer (weapon), does this constitute wearing orange in my garage? I realize these are extremes, but where does it end?

EDIT: technically, we are allowed one deer per day. So once I find my deer, I guess I am illegal (being in woods witha weapon, Im obviously hunting with no more tags for the day).
I guess the hunter orange in the photo was a wash, I was already breaking the law by having a weapon on me in the woods after I killed an animal for the day. I'm an outlaw.

Your state requires any hunter who is in the field during firearms season to wear orange.

Is it breaking the law to hunt without orange.

The reason I ask is because it is firearms season in Oklahoma, and by law ALL hunters must wear orange while in the field. Just wondering if I would be breaking the law if I did not wear it. I want to be sure to obey all game laws set fourth by the state.
Without reading thru this entire thread:

No...now you're being an ass.

The regulations in your state clearly state when and how orange can and must be worn....reguardless if you like it or not.

I never said you would get arrested but it is illegal either way....

.....and ya'll are soooo much the role models for younger kids by not wearing what the regs say and then bragging about it.

Actually our regs say anyone "hunting". Heck....after I kill one.....drag it out....transport it home.....change clothes.....place it in my yard for harvest photos.....I figure the last thing I can be accused of is "hunting".

'Course.....this place (some people)never ceases to amaze me!....:D

I go to stand with my weapon sometimes 1.5hrs before first light. Am I hunting at night?:D

Why would you not wear your orange. If you get shot, you just deserve it because you were breaking the law. Stop trying to be a rebel and wear it, for your own safety.

RE: Is this breaking the law?

This post looks like its gotten entertaining.

but as far as the orginal subject goes id say its breaking the law, but it depends on circumstances.

I got a blaze orange violation ticket once, however i was hunting in county where the use of firearms is illegal!! You can only bowhunt, and there are only like 5 or so gun permits in the whole county. The game warden gave me and two of my friends tickets for not wearing blaze orange, the judge threw it out considering you can't use guns in the county, and the closest gun permit was about 20 miles away. And since then the state revised its laws on that to say that in archery only counties you dont have to wear blaze orange during regular firearms season.

But in an area where you can use guns you better beleive im wearing it, there are too many idiots out there. I was wearing orange the other day hunting with my rifle and a poacher was walking throught woods, i whistled at him at 20 yards, and he couldnt see me in open hardwoods wearing orange, finally he saw me after i whistled about 10 times. Kinda scary!! he ran when i pulled out my phone, he saw that! lol.

Why is there a "law" thread in the "Bowhunting" forum. I'm offended.

GMMAT 12-03-2008 08:12 AM

RE: Is this breaking the law?

Yes...

And:

1. Bow was at or exceeding legal draw weight
2. BH's exceeded required size
3. I had the required license to be able to be hunting
4. I had a tag for the animal taken
5. I was on land I had permission to be on
6. Deer was taken during leagal shooting hours
7. Animal was tagged promptly (reported, online)
8. Etc...Etc...Etc...

Yet I get called out in an open forum by a member who accuses me of being a poacher, a liar and for being B-Buddies with the local GW. There's got to be a breach of forum rules there, somewhere, huh?

I don't appreciate it one bit. I've had people here hunting with me from other states. When they harvest animals....I make sure I contact them to make sure they report their kills.

I do things right...and I didn't appreciate being called out. If it weren't so ridiculous, to me.....I would be angry.

Ridiculous is right. You certainly seem to attract a crowd. Like the guys fishing the BASS tournaments. I'm not taking any pics wearing orange either, no matter when the deer was killed. I wear orange while going to and from the stand, when I'm there (completely enclosed wood box blind), it goes in my backpack. Come and arrest me. In IL, during the youth hunt in early Oct, orange is required for ALL hunters, youth or not. I didn't wear orange, forgot all about it to be honest. There is no bowhunting during gun season (dumbest rule in history) so its a non-issue really. People just need to poke sometimes I guess.

And what is a b-buddy?

Did you see him first or hear him? That's one of the funniest pictures I've seen on here.

No orange required in NY, but I wear an orange winter hat over my facemask so I don't get my head ripped off. The way things are going this year I'm thinking about wearing a pumpkin suit.

With the defamatory allegations you slung my way....I'm betting there's a pretty good chance you've breached the rules of board conduct towards another member.

You called me a liar.
You called me a poacher.
You alleged I had B-buddy (and I'm assuming this isn't a compliment....but I guess I don't run in the circles you do to know what that is).

Not my style to run to a mod to have you banned. Your actions were so petty....that public humiliation is probably the best medicine you could recieve.

You've done a stellar job at that!:D
