So i snuck out yesterday to try to catch a doe snoozin before our gun opener tommorow. Which i did, she ended up jumpin the string and i hit her clear back in her hind quarter. NOT GOOD so i watch her limp out into the middle of a chisel-plowed field and lay down which had me thinking artery or somethin was hit cause she was bleeding a bunch so i felt relieved. So i got down walked back to the truck and drove to the neighbors were we continued watchin her via his picnic table and binos.
After aboutan hour and a half she stood up and walked another 50 yards stumbling bad and layed back down in a bit of grass in the edge of the field. Long story short i waited till dark walked out there and jumped her.
Should have waited till morning ,now that its dark i have no idea which way she headed she was running fairly well and i think barring any infections / predators i think she will probobly live. I have lost three deer this year . I dont think ive ever been so dissapointed i expected yesterday to be redemption. IT WASNT so im done for the rest of the year im tired of wounding/killing animals due to my apparent lack of skills.
Thats all i have to say - see ya next year

What was the range, angle etc. I am not looking for anything other than tomaybe help you understand what went wrong. Sometimes we rush, sometimes the deer moves...and sometimes no matter who/how good you are @#@# happens. I would suggest if you have any season left that you keep on.

Damn Dave, It's been a rough year by the sounds of It. Who says your not going to get this deer? Hind quarter shots allot of times end up being lethal. Don't give up on this one, get on It In the morning!
Good luck.
Good luck.

I believe she ended up back in the woods i shot her in. Problem is our gun season starts tomorrow and yesterday the land owner was tellin me he had seen 15-16 deer walk in there in the early afternoon and the neighbor where i was spyin her at after the shot told me several had walked in that afternoon also. that being said , these guys normally wait till tues or wed to hunt this area and , i dont wanna ruin there season stompin around in there lookin for my doe, ( they show me the same respect all year staying out til gun season ) so i dropped a call to the landowner today to see what he thinks. I ABSOLUTELY dont want to leave her togo to wastebut i also dont wanna ruin 4 peoples deer season either. I tell ya ive got some bad juju or somethin this year !
MichealP - 8-10 yards quartering to me , i was in my climber only 12-14ft in the air i knew before it even left it was bad she just went to take a stepsimotaneously i squeezed off. I wascommited to a good shot then suddenly shetook a step and i released, it was like watchin a slow motion movie of a CAR ACCIDENT
I unloaded all my stuff out of mytruck for the year i apparently need some more practice. I went out last friday and was havin a slow day so i shot a squirrel then another then one more on my way out of the woods. Those where all 15 20 yard shots ?I must get shaky legs a bit worse than i realize or somethin when it comes to the deer ? Im gonna forever remember 2008 for one thing FRUSTRATION . Maybe tomorrow i find my doe for some closure.
