Intense last light moment.
I was hunting a fairly new spot this evening. A spot that earlier had been bordered by a 300 acre corn field. One morning while walking back to the truck I noticed a massive amount of coyote tracks and wondered if I would see one. Fast forward to this evening 10 minutes before season closes. I have to leave because I have to go to work[:'(]. It sucks but at least I got to do some hunting. I am on the ground walking around looking for a piece of garbage that fell from my pocket when I was getting down from the tree. I find it and go back to my bow and seat laying on the ground.Just before I reach my gear I hear a rustling and look up to see a big coyote jogging straight towards me! He is at 30 feet and closing fast. Quickly I whislte at him all the while praying that this wont provoke a startle attack. He keeps going so I whistle again. He is at 20 feet and does an instant spin around and bounds off. I kiss at him after he stopped to look around (about 70 yards away). I do some more to sound like a hurt animal and he goes up on a ridge and starts coming back! I get ready and then I realize that hes heading downwind. Well he gets about 45 yards away and bolts off when he scents me. He is one lucky puppy due to all the brush that was preventing me from lobbing and arrow at him. Just thought I would share my exciting evening.
Moral of the story. Stay in the freaking stand until season is done. [:@]
