Default Wierd stuff on my arrow

I shot a buttonbuck sunday night and it was a perfect double lung pass through. I got done to get my arrow and there was a bunch of poop like stuff on it. I smelled it and it smelled really bad. The deer only ran 40 yards and died instantly. There was also a pretty good blood trail also.

What would the stuff on the arrow be? If there is something wrong will it so anything to the meat?

You may have passed through the esophagus. Deer will eat their food and then pass it back and re-chew their cud. Stomach contents are very smelly. This could explain it. Congrats on your deer.

Sounds to me like you got guts. How hard was the deer quartering?

Stomach matter. Many times from the esophagus if the shot was forward of the stomach.

He wasn't quartering away at all. A perfect broadside shot.

You passed through the deer and your arrow landed in poop? [&:]

Probably stomach matter, as has been mentioned.

If it tastes like corn, acorns, or alfalfa, it's definitely from the esophagus. Thats the only way to be sure.

Alright, im not sure what those taste like so if you could come over and give it a try.

Washington Hunter, I didn't mean it landed in poop lol. It just has stuff on it that looked and smelled like poop or food in the stomach that would later be poop.

Would it ruin the meat at all if it did go through the esophagus or will it be alright?

It will be just fine. I got esophagus on a doe a couple of years ago and it had no effect on the meat.
