Guided or not? No right or wrong answer

RE: Guided or not? No right or wrong answer
I've noticed a couple have said they DIY when they go. How does one just roll into another state and automatically have land to hunt?

RE: Guided or not? No right or wrong answer
Thats why I was asking. I have no idea how much, if any, public land is open to hunting in states like Iowa, kansas, illinois, etc. The county I live in has no public land open to hunting whatsoever. The bordering county does but you run the risk of being ventilated come gun season. These are the things I think about when someone mentions DIY hunts. When I do decide to go I obviously have a lot of homework to do. Thanks for the info though.

I have gone on a guided hunt for moose in Newfoundland. I would also go on one in Canada for one of their huge whitetails, it's the law. Other wise I'll stick around home and try for the big ones we grow around here.

I've never guided big game. mostly spring turkey. but i'm guessing that with the limited time that most of the outfitter hunts allow (5 day average), you would almost need or may even wanta guideto maximize your success. now ones that go out of state to hunt public land wont have that option of course.
whether or not you would choose a guide is up to the individual i guess.

I've never.. and likely never will.
But I don't really care what another does.
I mean.. I might call you a sally behind your back.. but otherwise what do I care what some other hunters skirt looks like.
(c'mon.. it was funny and you know it.)

Question though. DIY= "Do It your own" right? Is that what the abbreviation's stand for? I've never asked but just assumed that's what the abbreviation's meant.
