07 buck mount!!!!!
well, yesterday me and my first bow kill were reunited!!
i went with an offset shoulder, semi sneak to the left and lowered head..think its a mckenzie form...could be wrong...i REALLY love the form...i think it was nctaxi that posted pics for me of what i was looking for... cape is a little beat up and kinda makes the mount looks bad...but its all just busted hair...it was all busted when he was alive...just gives him character...taxi did an excellent job IMO...i love his work...very very pleased with how it turned out...the form and the work and everything is exactly what i wanted... here he is..... (head on) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() hard to get good pics of mounted stuff!! but thats him from about every angle... here he is a kill pic incase ya'll havent seen it enough times yet :D ![]() the short early season hide looks great(minus being busted up) shows detail and muscle real nice...very proud of the buck and will never forget that day...first bow kill...and first deer mount ive ever had done...every time i walk into my room i gotta stare at him...then i come out grinning....just real happy with it.. |

RE: 07 buck mount!!!!!
That is a very good job on the mount, looks like he's gonna jump out of the screen at me!
And your grinning ear - to - ear, which is a form of a "smile"!:D Nice job! |
RE: 07 buck mount!!!!!
thanx guys...im super happy with the way he turned out...its hard to get pics of the form but you can get the idea from the different angles...glad thats the one i went with..with a smaller rack, i could kinda took away from him by doing him in other forms...thats about the exact form i shot him in too...which was another reason i picked it...
the pics make him look like he had a big blocky head...but he actually did. and the early season kill means the neck is smaller...my other kill pics show the head better...in person it looks better than the pics to me for some reason... i still grin ear to ear when i look at him or think about the hunt Ed....that ear to ear is a more of "i cant believe it" kinda grin...happy as heck but kinda in shock...i went to my buddies camp that weekend just to give the honey hole at home an extra weekend of relief...didnt expect to see much of anything....that was a good hunt.. he might not be big...he's hopefully not the biggest i'll ever kill...but hes special to me...glad i made the decision to get him mounted... |

RE: 07 buck mount!!!!!
Beautiful mount! You should be very happy. You know, even though it's been since 1977, I can still remember my very first bow kill (yearling doe) like it was yesterday. I was hunting from the ground no less.

RE: 07 buck mount!!!!!
thanx guys!!
early in, i was at my buddies farm last night showing him the mount on the way home...hes older than myself..killed mannnnnnnnny deer...but he said i made a good decision by having him mounted...he said in all those years the only ones he vividly remembers are his first and the latest, and biggest. he can probably tell the story or atleast where he killed it if you ask about one of the racks..but not like the first and latest...i never wanna forget my first bowkill... Greg, i actually have that same pic printed on an 8x10...and i have the arrow and broadhead still blood coated and its staying that way. its the only one i'll "waste" but im thinking of some kinda frame i can rest the arrow on...the pics make that wall look bigger than it is...room for stuff is hard to come by...i got a turkey fan i gotta hang back up on that wall...i got about 10 8x10s i need to frame and hang just no room for them...heck i got 2 deer racks in the basement i havent hung plus a bunch of other stuff..maybe i'll work on that tomorrow...he gotta stay on that wall, but i gotta get that turkey fan hung back up.. i really love the taxis work...i made a mistake once with a squirrel and it turned out terrible and took dang near 3 years...after that, i had a trout i wanted mounted...i did alottttt of talking to guys and driving to shops looking at work before i took that fish anywhere...my taxi i actually knew from another forum...forgot about his shop, and got his card at a bait shop...rode out and looked at his work and it just really looks great to me. his turkey heads and fish are what caught my eye...the guy can PAINT plain and simple. he was/is an artist..actually does the feather painting stuff..but what makes him different is his attention to detail...stuff that most guys would never notice...eyes, nose, ears, lips etc on deer heads..most guys can make it look "good enough" but his really look great..exspecially if you let him give his ideas and form recomendations..if a deer head from him looks bad, its because the hunter insisted on a bad form...i cant wait to have a turkey done by him...his turkey heads are AMAZING. not to mention hes a real great guy...went fishing with him once...offered to take me turkey hunting today...everytime im there i gotta clear my schedule coz im there well over an hour lol... |
