Great thread Mark. I too hear of bad endings on people taking that shot and not having It work out In there favor. It's risky and It can be done. Anything that's risky or Iffy doesn't usually mix well with bow hunting. Last night a friend of mine shot a 140" 8 point while gun hunting. He shot this same buck 3 days prior to this and knocked him over and then the buck got back up and took off. Not a drop of blood was found! He also had the shot angle you are reffering to. Any Idea where he hit it? I was surprised at where he hit it.[:-] I'll add that he got about an Inch of penetration the 1st time he hit It the other day. The shot was at 60 yards shooting slugs using a 12 gauge 870 Remington.

Nice buck and nice shot bud, thanks for posting the pics and the story and most importantly reminding everyone how hard of a shot it is and even in making a lethal shot there is a lot that can be questioned

That shot depends on how sharp the angle the deer is on too. Sometimes if it's just a slight quarter-to angle, and you can easily avoid that shoulder, you can go in the lung(s)and exit the liver. They don't go far on that shot at all. But if it's a sharp angle, and you have to shoot through the shoulder to get to where you want to hit, then it's best to use your own personal experience and shooting ability to determine what to do. I personally avoid it, I don't like shooting at shoulders, and I don't like tracking deer.

You put a good shot on him, and you should feel good about it! That takes skill, and you applied it well. Congrats!

Nope, this is behind my house in carroll. This would be a baby compared to those boys over on the shore. I missed a nice 8pt last friday that made this guy look small. And another guy in the club took a huge 11pt out of my stand on Sat.

Congrats on the nice Buck!

I did the same thing last year and caught the liver and the arrow went through the belly.
This 6 pointer I shot went about 250 yards and the intestines plugged the hole, with little blood for tracking.
Fortunately I backed out until the next morning and found out they really do go to water!!??..:D
