Default The dog and I are both pleased.

Well both the dog and I are pleased enough. I passed on bigger deer this season and I think I may have passed on this one as well.

This is the first buck I have shot with a compound since my back surgery a few years ago and it was nice to change it up a bit.

I had deer all over but you know how it is.. Was it 5 deer or 20? Two does came charging up the hill thru the oaks and this guy was still out of sight but he was grunting up a storm. I drew back grunted at him with my mouth only and he stopped dead in his tracks right at my ranged 30 yard lane. I released withoutmuch thoght BUT I have a problem with dropping my bow and did not see the arrow hit. It sounded like 2x4's being slapped together. I was immediately worriedI figured I had hit him in the shoulder and at the weight I was pulling did not get much penetration.

I climbed down after a bit to check forblood and arrow but only found a little bit of blood and NO arrow. I poked along a very sparse blood trail for 20 yards and pulled out for a good six hours. My bud and I could find no blood so I just did a little grid search and he had gone no more than 80 yards from the shot. Backed tracked and found no blood either.

I actually hit the little fella a bit back but he was quartering away so I nicked his gut but livered and one lunged him and the arrow did pass thru.

All in all it was a great day in the woods. Maybe I will give alot of thought to QDM when it comes to filling my next buck tag. I'm glad I took him with the compound but I'm gonna stick his dad using the Xbow cause I like it.

Oh yes!!! Two minutes after I shot this kid his dad came thru on the trail of the does only right into my 20 yard lane.A very nice wide 8 pointer I had not seen before.I could have legally shot him but I was not sure about the first one..I am very guilty of poor self restraint even after 30 plus years of hunting.
