Lock on vs hang on. Whats more sturdy?
What's more sturdy In a tree? I've always made my own hang on stands out of small square tubing for the frame and expanded metal for the platform. My stands are very, very sturdy. The store bought stands back In the day were nothing near as sturdy as I have now. Are they better now? Whats the sturdiest of the 2 stands, hang on and lock ons? I'm really getting serious about buying one If there as good as people say they are.

I didn't know there was a difference between a hang on and a lock on.

I believe they are one in the same, just referred to differently......I too always use straps, even with mine that have chains....Seems to help keep it from shifting any....

Steve - If you're talking chain vs. strap I would say astand with astrap and a big platform is the way to go.
I just have found that stands with chainsare noisy...the extra chain is all shiny and noisy and very annoying to me.. The most comfortable stand in the world...My opinion.....is the ladder stands but Ido not own one..Even though the deer get accustomed to all of the metal and bulkyness....I dont like the fact that they stare at it and see the silouette...I like to blend in with the surroundings...and I actually still use screw in steps....but as I get older...I hate screw in steps...34 years old and I'm getting soft.. |

They are much better today, though I don't care for the heavy cheapies. I have both chain and strapon stands. I find the chain on stands easier to hook up though they are slightly noiser packing in and hooking up.
By the way when I personnaly say LocOn its the old reliable LocOn brand stand I still use;). |

The old traditional lock on...I have one to...It barely holds my boots but I still love it....Until the squirrels chewed the seat away[:-]

One in the Same, just a different name...Ive always had good luck with the basic cheaper models...I dont do same day setups currently, so weight and ease of carrying is a non issue, i hang em for the entire season.
Summit Deer Deck seems to be an awesome hang on, suspension type seats are 100x more comfortable than anything with steel or a hard surface under it. If you are looking for a bigger, all year type hang on, try the heavier models that have arm rests and a seat that sort of hangs by straps instead of a cushion on top of steel/plywood. They are pretty heavy, but man once they are hung you can't beat their comfort. |
