Getting back on the horse....

I decided to go to a good doe spot this morning.....thinking I might see one getting chased. I did.....and it was a little spike. I also had more deer come in.....and no buck in tow (I watched them for a good while).

So when I got th eopportunity to take the bigger of the group....I took it. She was at 5 yds. I watched the arrow hit, bury to the fletch and blood gush out of the top of her side. When she left my set.....I watched her intently to see if she'd go down. Miraculously, she didn't. I made some mental notes and then started glassing the POI. I could follow the blood trail 30 yds or more with my binos, from stand.

Since I didn't see her go down.....I waited about 30 minutes and snuck out in the other direction. It was misting rain, earlier....so I didn't wait too long to ge ton the trail. I can't believe she went as far as she did. She went a good 120yds. I videotaped the recovery....and not once did I have to stop along the blood trail. It was that profound. Still.....she went 120 yds.

Here's some photos from my 4th doe of the year. I needed a happy ending after a rough weekend. She's the biggest doe I think I've ever shot. These photos might not do her justice.....but she's a really nice, mature NC doe. I'm happy to have gotten her.

When you had a weekend like I just had.....this is one of the most beautiful sights in the world.

Entrance wound

Exit wound (NO pass thru)

Unbelievable the deer went that far when she was hit, here.

Happy to have made a good shot.....a swift kill....and a successful recovery. NC Doe No. 4 down for '08.

Good going. Most of the deer I shoot do not fall withing sight so don't feel bad. I usually hunt dense woods, so I usually can only see about 50 yards max.
