Damned squirrels. I was set up in a natural ground blind last night, and 1 1/2 hours before sunset the squirrels come out. So I'm thinking, great; whenever I see this happen as soon as the squirrels leave the deer are everywhere. Sure enough, after about 45 minutes of racket, they leave and the woods are silent. Then the lovely sound of hooves walking through dry leaves hits my ears. I see a nice shooter making his way over to me, zig zagging through the trees. At about 15 yards, he takes an odd direction, and heads towards me through some thick stuff. So now I have to wait untill he goes by me and it will be about a 5 yd qtr away shot. Well, hes in the thick stuff about 3 yds from me, about to come into the open, when a squirrel belts out the loudest mating call I have ever heard. The friggin buck jumped so damned high in the air I swear I shot the guy and didnt know it! That buck ran so fast out of there he was out of sight within a fraction of a second. AAAAAARRRGHH!!

I honestly doubt that a squirrel spooked a deer. I mean I guess possible but, I think there is a greater chance the deer was spooked by being 3 yards from you while on the ground. Just a thought.
