You spend months planning for deer season (trail cameras, food plots, mineral sites, stand sites, trimming shooting lanes) you owe it to the deer to work hard and spendhowever much time it takeson recovering it.

ORIGINAL: englum_06 I dont know if it will make the top ten, but I think: You can learn from every deer you recover. Whether it be about shot placement, the area they like to go after being hit, or other possibilities. After you recover your animal think back on the blood trail and the shot placement on your deer. Compare the 2 and put 2 and 2 together and look for these similariteis next time when In question. Every blood trail I go On I want to know exactly where It was hit and the damage of the organs. Whether It's my deer or someone elses Its excellent Info!! |

ORIGINAL: Ben / PA Let's sticky it to the top. Every time someone gives up too early, refer them to this thread. Start your Suggestions for the list. I will go first. 1. The deer is most likely dead or dying. |
RE: Top Ten List - Reasons to Still Be Looking for your Dead Deer
You owe it to your fellow hunters as well. Some of them would kill (no pun intended) for the opportunity to get out of the office and into the woods. You found the time, and to just give up is a slap in the face to those who would do anything to be in your position. You shot it and you owe it to the deer and fellow hunters to finish the hunt.

RE: Top Ten List - Reasons to Still Be Looking for your Dead Deer
ORIGINAL: IL_BOW_MAN I guess I would need to know what is too early to give up? I once looked for a deer for a week. Never could find it, nor could I find anymore blood, but it was found 2 months later about 3/4 of a mile a way. Did I give up too early? Did I not exhaust my methods...I guess the only person that can decide that they gave up too early is the person in the situation. JMO |
RE: Top Ten List - Reasons to Still Be Looking for your Dead Deer
Look until you can say to yourself "I have done everything humanly possible to find this deer, and exhausted every scenario/possibilty that could have happened." When you are okwith your decision and living with it, then you are finished looking. Even then, keep an eye out;)
