Whitetail Arrow Weights
How heavy of an arrow do you all fling at whitetails. I used 44o grain Blackhawk vapors last year consisting of 28" shaft, three 4" vanes, 9" wrap and a 100 grain Wasp JackHammer.
I was thinking about tring to lighten it up to around 400 grains, but then a gain I am shooting 265 with these arrows and a vew grains may up my speeds, but will probably not affect the drop too much. I was playin in the yard tonight. Sighted in at 20 yards with the 440 grain arrow, then shot a 336 grain 3D arrow and it hit right with the others. Granted at 30 yards you get a little less drop, but most shots for whitetail are under 25 yards.
Thanks for your thoughts.

430 grain Beman ICS 340. Approximately 6.1 grains per pound of draw weight. Personally, I think that your setup of a 440 grain arrow at 265 fps is excellent for whitetail hunting.

RE: Whitetail Arrow Weights
I have two also I hunted with the last couple of years:
A/C/C 3-60 @ 393 grains = 290-295 fps
PSE CF 300 @ 352 grains = 308 fps
I so no loss in penetration .......unless maybe the A/C/C' s go 18 " into the ground instead of 17 " PSE after a pass through ?? !!

Two bows... two different set ups
1) 425 grain 340 ICS hunters at 265 fps
2) 525 grain XX78s at 252 fps
I would think with your speed and set up you should leave it alone. The extra foot or two of speed will be offset by wear and tear and possibably more bow noise. 265 fps is plenty fast for hunting.

ACC, 3-49, 378 grains at 263fps. I hit a shoulder with a mechanical and got no penetration, though. I' m thinking about adding some weight with a heavier BH for more penetration since I won' t shoot a deer over 30 yards.
