This year I've had 1 300 lb near my stand on 3 occasions. It doesn't bother me in the least to walk in and out in the dark knowing he is there. They run at the slightest boo. Now that momma and cub, she was just making sure and I'd give her concern more than a boar.
That was a cool encounter you described.
Here are 3 videos from this years sightings.

3rd Sighting, coming down from 40' up a tree.

Now I had an encounter with a Mtn. lion about 15 years ago that still haunts me a little. I've seen mtn lions 6 times and they are really alot like bears.......run away as soon as they see you......except for that one time.
Iknow they are around so I tend to be a little more wary of big cats when I'm in the woods. I'll post that cat story some other time.
Those are some great bear vids. Pretty cool catching it coming down that tree. Looks like a pretty good sized boar. I thought the one I got this year was a boar too. Turned out she was a big old sow.

I agree..... they almost always run off when they know you're there. My wife was a heck of alot more freaked out about it then I was [8D]. I see bears all the time and they don't bother me at all.

Never had the pleasure of bear but I may. I am moving to Montana and I am moving to Grizzly territory. I have been hunted and came withing 15feet of some mountain lions. I was walking by a river that was down to basically a small stream and across the water was a mountain lion looking at me. Well my so called buddy vanished and left me looking eye to eye with this cat. I wasnt armed other thatn a pocket knife. It screamed, I yelledand I took off. Not sure if it was scared of the water or my yelling but it did not chase me.

I've probably had about 50 encounters with bears....everything from them coming into our camp at night to just watching them play with each other. I've seen a few big ones too. We don't have grizzley in NM. Just black bears. Just gotta watch sows with cubs.
We did have a guy who lived in the woods get killed by a mountain lion this year near Silver City NM. He had a habit of going out near a creek and shaving every morning. He was out shaving one morning and a cat got him.

I was pretty darn lucky to have the parents I have when I was growing up. My parents both bear hunted and I was always tagging along with dad up In northern Minnesota tripping over his feet at 4 years old checking bear baits and looking for places to put new one's. Bear hunting ranks up there as one of my favorite animals to hunt. I've been bear hunting since 1989. I was 15 years old when I 1st started bear hunting, I'm now 34. We don't get drawn for a license every year being were In a lottery set up In Minnesota. So far I've shot 9 bear, all have been with bow and arrow (4 with the compound and 5 with my recurve). I no longer hunt with a compound, I'm all traditional now and love It! A few of them years I passed on smaller bear being we had some monster bear hitting our baits but ended up going without. It's funny how times have changed since when I 1st started going In the bear woods at a young age with my family and dad. It's my dad now who's asking me the question's and pointers Instead of me asking him. I've gained a ton of knowledge with these creatures of the woods, I've spent many hours learning there ways and each year I learn something else. Back In 1995 we had 11 of us bow hunting bear In our hunting group that year, we went 10 for 11. Here's are group picture.
