Jerky??

Does jerky taste better when it is dried out in the stove or in a dehyderator

I put the same batches in both and can't tell any difference.

MOST stoves can't go low enough to dry jerky properly .... it ends up being cooked more and dryer ... a dehydrator is by far the way to go

Just a little feed back on dehydrators.
Be sure to get one of the top end dehydrators or it is going to take forever to make jerky.

If you got get one of thos small ones used for vegetables it will not work like you want, and will be money wasted.

I have a pair of dehydrators, so that's what I use, but I've known lots of people who use their oven and are satisfied as well, I think the risk of using the oven is from the burner being on/off cycling as much as it does to stay at a LOW temp, you can burn the burner out, plus you get temps varying a lot, 200* down to 160, back up to 200, etc. I don't believe you can go wrong with a dehydrator, and for the most part, the marinade the you put the meat in is such a high salt content, that you could probably safely eat that meat raw and not worry about getting sick.

Dehydrator, an oven will cook it.

I've had no problem with using my oven. I set it to 200 and leave a wooden spoon in the door to keep it open just a crack. Rotate shelves and flip over strips every so often. Comes out tender.

I use the oven too like talondale. I've had a couple cheap dyhydrators and they were junk. I like the oven much better than them, but a better dehydrator would probably make a lot of difference.

A gas oven is much better than an electric but I use my dehydrator
