RE: Hunting on ground

Thats all I do is ground hunt. I love it. To me its quite the challenge. Knowing that you have to be still, scent free and smart. Knowing when to pull up. Last saturday, I pulled up at the wrong trime on a 8 point but at the right time on a doe. She has been good eating all week so far. I had a bobcat within 30 feet, a fisher within 20 feet. I had a doe and a fawn within 5 feet of me last year. Chipmunks running across my feet. Good luck and have fun...

RE: Hunting on ground

I was thinking of hunting from the ground this Saturday evening. I'd probably set up next to a pine tree that's blown down. It's supposed to be raining and high around 60 here in VA. I've only hunted from the ground a few times (no success so far, but very close with a nice buck once..foot scraped on a leaf when I turned around for a 15 yard shot and the big boy bolted).

Do you think rain helps or hurts hunting from the ground?

RE: Hunting on ground

I love to ground hunt.. and always have.

This season I will be unable to do it though.. an injury to my knee during a softball game is keeping me in a tree. In fact.. my knee has got a bubble on the size of a golfball.. been there since early Augustish...

It's gotten smaller though.. so maybe I can get on ground by late season.
