RE: Scary Coyote Encounter

Dern man that is scary. I am not trying to hijack your thread by any means, but I had a very similar experience this weekend. I was walking to my stand in the dark. In the waning moon it was very bright and I could see a good way up ahead. There is an intersection in two trails that I have to take to my stand and I could make out the outline of the back of a coyote sneaking up the intersecting trail. I saw him scurry up and jump into a thicket of high grass. I stopped in my tracks and waited for him to move or do something. He sat still. Then I thought, "Is that little bastard trying to stalk me?" So I clicked on my headlamp and sure enough he was looking right at me. As soon as the light came on he took off back down the trail with no growling or snarling or anything like you said happened to you- thank goodness or I would have prolly **** my pants. But anyway, I have never had that happen before. I didn't think coyotes would bother you. I have walked up on them many times and every time they have scattered except this time, which is enought to make me pay more attention in the future.

I would have whacked him ifI had the chance. The only good yote is a dead one....

I guess it is scary but it's just a yote. Unless a pack of 12 or more not really worried. Hardly no bigger than myankle biter dogat home even with no bow you could punt him for 40 yards. Cool encounter you probably scared him twice as bad.

I recommend carrying some pepper spray with you when you are entering and leaving when it is dark. It has crossed my mind on several occassions because there have been some bear sightings in my hunting area here in NE Ohio.

Not this yote, he was at least the size of a Golden Retriever. I wasn't scared for my life, but i was scared of getting a nasty bite.

Because of a yote?
