as far as the string thing goes if the string did cost 50-60 bucks or so...which it could $20 for his labor aint bad....now $50-$60 for a string and the total comes to $125......yea i would have told him to take the thing off and use it hang junk up on in his shop that i wouldnt return to...thats flat out BS there....some shop owners know if they have the market covered in their area...wrong maybe but if thats your only choice not a lot you can do...but i would possibly look into seeing if there is another shop around in the next town or something even if its a little further to go it might be worth it in the end if they are easy to deal with

Well, seems this guy has a grudge on you or just a bad business man.
Does he own the shop? If not i would get with the owner and fix the problem maybe. But i looked a bit for you in google and found these places to try man. Pro shop??? Archery dealer???? Whats that??? Just kiddin, i almost never go to one because most are idiots. Before i bought my leftover 07 Black Ice for 475 bucks over at Archerytalk.com i went to a Bowtech, Matthews, diamond, PSE, dealer.
He basically got pissed when i asked about the black ice and said it was over rated. Of course he pushed the Matthew which costs more than my bow with everything and i mean everything. I walked out of there laughin swearin i wouldnt buy anything from such a douche bag. I buy everything from the internet and have another place do only stuff that i cant which isnt much. I would suggest getting a bow press and workin on your own stuff, its fun, and it allows you to better understand your equipment. |

good advice. I plan to pick up a press soon. The guy localy is better then most so i am lucky. he is high some stuff real high others lower.HE is good with bows he had one from indy one frombloomington. Indy is 100miles bloomington is 80 so seems most like his work. He is also a live time hunter so knows alot about hunting. I can not count the numberof guys at gander that have never hunted

Small businesses are facing a tough time in this messed up economy right now but he should practice good customer relations to keep what he does have. $125 does seem crazy for sure and GL with him next time. |

As infrequently as a bow or bowhunter actually requires the services of a full blown pro-shop it would be in your best interest to seek another one even if it was an hour drive away. Ask around and get some references from peoplebecause sadly the guy you describe is far from unique when it comes to pro-shop operators. In fact rude, greedy, know it alls, like him are why I learned how and aquired the necessary equipment to service my own bows and build my own arrows. Been a much happier camper ever since. And yeah, 125$ for a string change is robbery.

Even though I haven't been to our local pro-shop in 2 years, I can tell you they are good people. They are quiet and when you bring your bow in for service, they don't make a big deal if you don't know what you are talking about...they listen, then ask simple questions to help you out. And they also give you tips on proper bow care. I will be going to them next spring to purchase a new bow hopefully.
