RE: Archery Shop Guy is a Total @$$hole
as far as the string thing goes if the string did cost 50-60 bucks or so...which it could $20 for his labor aint bad....now $50-$60 for a string and the total comes to $125......yea i would have told him to take the thing off and use it hang junk up on in his shop that i wouldnt return to...thats flat out BS there....some shop owners know if they have the market covered in their area...wrong maybe but if thats your only choice not a lot you can do...but i would possibly look into seeing if there is another shop around in the next town or something even if its a little further to go it might be worth it in the end if they are easy to deal with

Well, seems this guy has a grudge on you or just a bad business man.
Does he own the shop? If not i would get with the owner and fix the problem maybe. But i looked a bit for you in google and found these places to try man. RE: Archery Shop Guy is a Total @$$hole
Pro shop??? Archery dealer???? Whats that??? Just kiddin, i almost never go to one because most are idiots. Before i bought my leftover 07 Black Ice for 475 bucks over at Archerytalk.com i went to a Bowtech, Matthews, diamond, PSE, dealer.
He basically got pissed when i asked about the black ice and said it was over rated. Of course he pushed the Matthew which costs more than my bow with everything and i mean everything. I walked out of there laughin swearin i wouldnt buy anything from such a douche bag. I buy everything from the internet and have another place do only stuff that i cant which isnt much. I would suggest getting a bow press and workin on your own stuff, its fun, and it allows you to better understand your equipment. |
RE: Archery Shop Guy is a Total @$$hole

Dude edit this you are skirting the profanity filter. Rob put out a thread regarding this and will be deleted.
Small businesses are facing a tough time in this messed up economy right now but he should practice good customer relations to keep what he does have. $125 does seem crazy for sure and GL with him next time. |
RE: Archery Shop Guy is a Total @$$hole
As infrequently as a bow or bowhunter actually requires the services of a full blown pro-shop it would be in your best interest to seek another one even if it was an hour drive away. Ask around and get some references from peoplebecause sadly the guy you describe is far from unique when it comes to pro-shop operators. In fact rude, greedy, know it alls, like him are why I learned how and aquired the necessary equipment to service my own bows and build my own arrows. Been a much happier camper ever since. And yeah, 125$ for a string change is robbery.

RE: Archery Shop Guy is a Total @$$hole
Even though I haven't been to our local pro-shop in 2 years, I can tell you they are good people. They are quiet and when you bring your bow in for service, they don't make a big deal if you don't know what you are talking about...they listen, then ask simple questions to help you out. And they also give you tips on proper bow care. I will be going to them next spring to purchase a new bow hopefully.

Sorry, but good luck. |

RE: Archery Shop Guy is a Total @$$hole
ORIGINAL: bigtim6656 i got some advise start a bow shop. lol wonder how long it would be to send him into the drain Yeah... there is a great idea.... spend over $100,000 to open a legit business when you know absolutely nothing about working on archery equipment simply in order to save $45 on a bow string. Next time you have a headache... instead of BC powder.... try a guillotine...... $125 is on the steep side for just a string change. But the question comes back to this... first, what kinda string did he use? If you got a Winner's Choice or a Zebra or a Cuda... a string, plus a buss cable and a control cable can very easily run you $100. Our shop sells Zebras for $42 for string, $31 for cable. We'll reset your nock point, reinstall your peep, leeches, check center shot, check timing/cam rotation etc etc, and labor will typically run you about $25. Do the math. Thats right at $100. And thats assuming you don't buy new leeches or whatever string suppressor you prefer. And that you don't decide on a new peep or that you don't want your string served for an STS. It boils down to this. If you want to dispute a $25 labor charge, then I openly encourage you to buy a press and all the tools you'll need to work on your own equipment. Infact, I'll even show you how to do it. Just remember that if you press your own bow and somehow damage it in a press... if you have a lifetime warranty.... you don't anymore. And as the old saying goes..... Labor Charge.... $40/hr. $50/hr if you watch...... $60/hr if you help..... and $100/hr if you worked on it first. The fact that he quoted you $50-60... and then hit you blind side with a $125 bill is, in my opinion, crooked and shady. As much as I'll go to bat for a dealer (not all the time, because I don't have issues like this because we don't surprise folks like this), in this instance you have a right legit gripe. He doesn't have to like you, there are a couple of guys who are rather loyal customers of ours that neither me nor the shop owner can stand one bit.... but they get a fair and equal deal... perhaps nothing extra... we might not bend over backwards... but its a straight deal. You deserve nothing less as a customer either. |

Unfortunately, I have the opposite situation! Both shops around me are great guys, great prices, just awesome all the way around. Unfortunately, they know less than most of you here about working on bows. It totally blows.

RE: Archery Shop Guy is a Total @$$hole
Bowstring or brain surgery, in this day and age, no one has to put up with that nonsense. After item one on your list, I'd be shopping and dealing elsewhere.
I wish you luck though. I do know how it feels to just want someplace close as a matter of convenience. |
RE: Archery Shop Guy is a Total @$$hole
Yeap good advise. I try and get good with anyone i buy off of.
I have spent somewhere between 15,000 and 20,000 at Lowe's this year. I have a good working relationship with a guy there. When i go in he takes care of me. Heck i spent 8500 in there the next morning i get a 10% off coupon. They refund and re-billed the order so i could get the 10# off the 8500. They also did it once on 4500 when i forgot my coupon. Had a guy from a local lumber yard stop by he wanted my business i told him Lowe's pays me to shop there. get to know the guy. If he helps give him something in return. When i got the 10% the 8500 i took the guy out for lunch. ORIGINAL: PatrickMc Try a letter to the editor or something to that effect.
