Day Events, 10-16 An Honest Pass (video)

We could have and I have to give props to Ben. See maybe I shouldn't say something but it shows how we mature as bowhunters etc... There is NOTHING wrong with taking any buck a man wants to take be it first or last he's ever taken but Ben's never shot a buck with his bow and when one presents itself and passes unharmed it shows a level in ones hunt. I gave kudos to Ben in the tree.

I give him credit for sticking to his guns, Kudos. But.......... what was the range on those deer?

How'd ya not attempt a shot at that last monster? (jk)

Again, Ben.....I think it's commendable you're sticking to your guns. I also think (because I, too, "passed" on several bucks before taking one) it's not a bad idea to put something on the ground. I say this, "in general"....because I have no idea of your experience level. Kinda "in general" to the masses.

With no bow buck under a man's belt.....that first one would have tempted plenty.;)

Jeff, those deer were just shy of 35 yards when straight out. When the walked out they were just under 30. It was a honest pass.

Thanks brother and Ben didn't start out that way. Last winter when he started shooting indoor 3D with us he was a right hander. He kept mentioning his eye dominance and I told him, any coach worth his salt would have him shooting left handed. He took those words to heart, ordered a left handed bow and I've never seen him shoot better. He's come a long, long way.

Rob, great video and camara work! Ben good job on sticking to your guns. When I started bowhunting, I drove my buddies nuts because I would pass smaller bucks to let them grow, but when I finally took my first buck, it meant that much more because I had waited. Good luck to you this year bud, hope you get that buck you are lookin for!!!:D

Great vid guys. If I didn't have a buck on the dirt I don't think I'd have been able to pass that first 8 pt up. Kudos to you!

I have passed up on a bunch of buck in my hunting career. My golden rule.....if the deer did not get my heart racing, I would not shoot. So, big or small buck that is the rule I stick with. If I even once ask....should I shoot this one....it means no to me.

The buck you take will be your trophy regardless of size. Great video and keep after them!

RE: Day Events, 10-16 An Honest Pass (video)

Thanks for the kind words guys. My friends all give me stuff about passing on deer like that one there. What the difference between them and I is, that I spend 10 times the amount of time in the woods as them. I know the land I am hunting holds bigger deer. I owe it to the deer that I choose to take to be proud of it and not just say "well, I got my buck this year." If it means tag soup, then it means tag soup. I had an "honest pass" on a 7 last year who was wider than this guy. I wasn't upset at the end of the season and I won't be this year. I have no problem with anyone shooting this buck. In fact, if he had been by last night and taken the same path, he might have been as we were tag teaming the field last night and he passed by the stand that my other buddy wasthe night before.

I am about to leave work and head for home to meet with Rob for our trip to York. Good luck to all this weekend and stay safe.

Sidenote: I did have a Ameristep harness on under my No Scent Fleece. I advocate safety in the tree to all.;)

Good work on the pass Ben. First one is tough to pass, but hopefully it pays off in a couple weeks when the big boys are more apt to be strolling around. Good work with the camera too Rob!

FYI guys, that little adlib in the front of the video is natural, Ben didn't even know the camera was on yet and he started rattling off at the mouth. I thought it was really good so I added it to the video when editing.

There is so much I do capture but Photobucket only allows 100mb of video so I have to really edit it down. I'll figure out a way to get more up. I tried Putfile and it failed me too. We'll get it right as we go.

Nah, you see on TV alot of times when they say they "passed" a buck or deer, they actually never had a shot. Ben had ample time and ample shots. Just a cool title really. ;)

Great job as always guys, love the videos.

Ben, shoot the buck that makes you happy. You know your area and like you stated, there may be better opportunities down the road. I applauded your decision to not shoot.

Also, good luck to both you and Rob this weekend. Travel safe and have fun.

Look forward to a text message :D.

Take care,

Brian

THeV8 to the floor won't be the limiting factor.........the lights and traffic in Selinsgrove, Lewistown, Harrisburg, Camp Hill and York will be.;)

They can bypass the strip in Sellinsgrove if they take a left at the first left after the overpass (Something trail road). Why are they going through Camp Hill? Can't they take 322 to to 283 and that will drop them into York, or am I wrong there? That's the way I went to school at MU, and had friends that traveled back and forth to York. Now that I think of it they would have to grab 30 wouldn't they? Ah heck, anyways, they can definitely avoid the lights I would think by going that way in Sellinsgrove at least.

Well, I guess being from Selinsgrove makes me an expert on this item and MGH you are correct by taking that first left it will take you to the Old Trail. At times it does help, but honestly it really makeslittle difference most of the time. That being said, Friday is the worst day for driving in that area. I really wonder at times if anybody works on Friday's around here.

Good luck to everyone this weekend.
