Default Honest question from a happy Rage user....

Why in the world don't they sharpen the tips of these blasted things? I don't understand why they wouldn't[&:] You would think, it would improve penetration?
I KNOW it can't be helping ANYTHING with it being dull. If anything, it's impeding pentration.

Like I said, I like the Rage's, I've 2 deer with them in two years, and have been thouroughly pleased.

Opinions? Has anyone sharpened them with success? If so, how?

With the amount of success that people are having with the heads the way they are now, do you think its really necessary?

It's still sharper than a LOT of tips that are highly touted in these forums.

Think about all the "chisel" tips touted here so often.

Well, I'm refering to the blades on the front. What would it "hurt" to sharpen those. My point is, it'd do NOTHING but help...or so you would think.

So sharpen it.

Sounds simple doesn't it. HOW would you go about that? I don't think it'll be very easy considering it has zero edge on it to begin with.

The ones I have do have a sharp edge on them. I usually sharpen them up after I kill a deer with one. I use a very fine stone and get them pretty damn sharp. Here you can kinda see a sharp point and an edge.

That was the second or third thing I noticed about them when I bought them. Haven't even shot one yet, but that was the first improvement I made on mine was to sharpen up that butterknife blade out front.

I put it in the lansky very carefully and used the super fine stone on 30 degrees. Probably just made a burr edge, but its enough to shave hair after 10 minutes work and thats a hullva lot better than it was.

That is one of the two things that keeps me from buying them. The second is that the front blade never seams to be square in the farrel. I know both could be fixed but for the price they want for them. Why should I have to do the finish work.
