Nothing of a picture to post...and really not much of a story.

It was 37 degrees this morning and from what I can remember, that was the coldest opening day of PA Archery...did not see any deer this morning, but did see some turkeys. The little ones were the size of small chickens, so that might be tough if we have a colder than normal fall with rain.

Heading back out tonight to do the evening hunt. Have to head over to NY to work on some posting.

When I stepped out of the truck in the brisk air I said to Kurt, damn I forgot my jacket so wearing only BaseSlayers and a Scentblocker shirt into the stand I went to be chilled. What a gorgeous morning. I saw the back of a semi big deer enter the corn down near Kurt, he later confirmed it was a spike, he saw a doe and 2 fawns that I believe where the same ones that came by me later 200 yards down the CRP field. They came out of the corn and past me. No shots taken this morning but we both refreshed our minds and souls.

Here's what I looked at all morning minus the deer, songbirds, geese, squirrels and hawks. Click the Video Pic for scenery video.

And a couple pics. The first one is of a ladder stand I hung last season for my landowner in rifle season, he's afraid of heights and never used it. Good thing for me though is once the corn is cut, that is a great stand as they walk that hedge.

Colors are starting to change.

23' closer to God. ;)

That's a nice view Rob. Can't believe there is that much color all ready. What I wouldn't give to be in PA today....rain and all.

I sat in my stand until about 9:30am. By then the rain had found a way to get down the back of my neck and had soaked my shirt. I really enjoyed the morning though. Didn't see any deer but I did see a few turkey and squirrels.

Not PA, but I was out Thursday Eve here in Ontario, had 3 bucks in the field, about 30 yards right at last shooting light. 2 smaller guys, but one looked to be a shooter. I was waiting for a better shot op, and to get a better judge on the one I thought to be a shooter, when something spooked them off the field. I didn't have enough light to see the length on him, but I could see that he had a much larger body than the other 2 with him, and I could see that the Rack was wider than his ears.

Not sure what spooked them of fthe field, I don't think it was me, they were looking in the Oposite direction. We did take a decent 8 pnt the night before, and gutted him exactly where they were looking....So I am not sure if that was merely coincedence or if they spooked from that smell or not.

I'll be back in that corner Monday Eve, and I may be moving one ladder stand to another location, as I glassed a nice 11-12 pnt in the other part of the feild last night and a Monster 10 was staging up to head in to that same field too...

I was out from 6-9. Didn't see a deer but had a beautiful red fox trot by. Coat on him was gorgeous. It was 44 degrees, nice and cool. Heading out to the food plot stand tonight, been seeing 3 nice bucks there. Good luck to everybody going out tonight. BTW Rob those pics and that vid are awesome, beautiful looking place to hunt.

Was out until 11:30. Bumped one deer right in front of my stand but too dark to get a good look. Saw a bunch of squirels and a black mink.

Will be back out in a couple hours.

Had a great morning. Was out until about 9:30, saw 6 deer, three nice doe, and three yearlings. Also had a nice flock of turkeys fly in above me into the clover plot around 8:30. I was planning to take a doe if one presented me with a shot, but they came in behind me. It was a great morning weather wise. I'll be heading out soon to my corn field stand.

Well I'm not technically in PA right now (school in NH), but I went out none-the-less. I bumped a few in the morning (too dark to tell) and spotted a lone doe as I was coming out. She saw me at the same time and went the other way. I've been out a few times since Sept 15th and that was the first deer I've seen all year....I thought the date (PA opener)was fitting.

As far as I know my dad and I went hunting together this morning (first time we've archery hunted together in two years).....just 600 miles apart. It felt good.

I was out in Potter County until 11:45 and saw two does at 11:10. I saw a bunch of chipmunks. It was coooold!!!! I froze my toes. My brother in law saw a couple of yearling bucks. No glimpses of the target buck from the trail cam pics.

just got back. no luck. saw 4 deer total. 3 smaller does, and 1 button buck. was out from 530-noon, then 1-645. button buck and 1yr old doe bedded down about 30y. behind me for about an hour during the rain. when they got up they started to walk away from me, so i threw out a fewgrunt calls (low tone). they turned right around and ran straight to me. they stopped 5yards in front of me and proceeded to eat for about 10-15 min. the doe went right to a scent bomb i had set out. if she was bigger it would have been the perfect scenario(12y away). they started to walk out the way they came in, i hit the tube again and theycame back again only to keep walking into some thickets. this time though the button threw out some low grunts to the doe. it was pretty cool. i was a little surprisedthey responded to my calls. i wont lie though, the doe had me busted hard. she was giving me the bob&weave treatment for 5min. didnt spook though. maybe if she was older, more wise.

all in all it was a good day. saw some deer, got rained on a little bit, fell asleep for a good hour on stand (wasnt expecting that)lol. just kinda happened.

Man it sucked. I was driving along at 330am and i saw the eyes on the shoulder but im not locking my brakes up to avoid her. But yeah it wasnt pretty. blood all over the pass side of the truck and chucks of un-recognizable deer parts in the landing gear of the trailer and in the steps of my truck. I think it was a doe i didnt see any antlers.

Well guys, I worked this morning, but was able to get out for an evening hunt. :)

Saw no deer [:@], but had a great encounter with a black bear at about 10 yards face to face. [:-]

This was my first everencounter with a bear, in 31 years of hunting. I really don't know who was more excited me or the bear.

Good luck,

Brian

Actually, I was more shocked than anything else, not really sure what I would have done if he would have taken a few steps towards me. Probably would have headed to the truck for a new pair of drawers. [:-]

I have to admit, it gives you one hell of an adrenalin rush though.

Got back to the stand at 4:00 at 6:30 had 3 does and a buck feed their way down the hill towards me. The buck was a solid 8 and I would have taken a shot but he stayed out around 50 yards. The two does feed up to about 15 yards away. But never offered a clear shot.

Well I climbed a tree yesterday afternoon about 200 yards off a fieldat about 2 and came down at 6:45. NOTHING.

So, I climbed a different tree in a different woodsthis afternoon at 2 and came down at 6:50. NOTHING. This is getting old.

I had a Davidmil day.............a whole lotta NOTHIN.

Man talk about a let down after months of preparation and then to get the perfect wind, weather etc.

I entered my woodlot and my groundblind (brushed in since JUNE[:-]) from the opposite direction so as not to disturb any deer feeding in the fully picked corn field above.
Lot of good that did me since a guy I've never seen before parked on the edge of the corn field and walked right through the middle of it before first light on an angle where his wind was going to go right across me.
PERFECT.

Needless to say I didn't see a thing.

PM gets even better. That guy is still there as his Jeep hadn't moved since I bailed out at 11:00AM, but now we have MORE company. A jackass I hadn't seen on this farm in 3yrs makes a triumphant return this afternoon by driving into and parking in the middle of........yep you guessed it the CUT CORN FIELD. [:@]
So I have 2 yahoos upstream of me somewhere and a Chester the Molester conversion van parked out in the middle of the food because Chester is too lazy to walk the 300 yards to that point.

Needless to say I didn't see anything again.

I love PA. It's the best.:)

Rob,
Sometimes that picture is what its all about.

On a side note.........I saw 500 chipmunks, 75 red squirrels, 15 Blue Jays and got buzzed by a hawk( I was standing up on a rock and he came down and buzzed me about 3 feet above my head). Didnt see any deer, heard one snorting at another hunter about 200 yards away. She snorted about 20 times(no exaggeration). So with everything but the deer I had a very busy day. You know when chipmunks and squirrels run in the leaves, they sound just like a deer walking. Im surprised I didnt get whiplash....lol

Seems the general concencus in my area was that, noone saw a dang thing, morning or evening?? I talked to 15 people and of the 15 one person saw a deer. (They missed) But anyhow, I diddnt get to go cause I cant risk getting sick so this morning when it was 40 degrees out and raining I took my mancard out and burned it then went back to sleep. Cant be a man about the situation then why have the card ;)

Lol anyhow, I had a hockey game in pittsburgh so I couldnt hunt in the evening, However we did win 6-1 with a team thats gaurenteed a spot to nationals just cause their hosting it... Which is the biggest joke ever, they are terrable..... wait why am I ranting about this... I'm over it. Anyhow, come monday if its not raining (like the forecast is calling for) I'll be out watching over my home away from home.

Good luck god speed and be safe to all the bowhunters.

Ryan.
