We can all hit targets in the back yard out to 50-60+ yrds but an animal is NOT JUST A TARGET[:@]!

For me its 25yrds and lessONLY if given the right shot.

Most deer i have taken have been on ave around 15yrds..

Normally anything beyond 20 yards Is to far for me, I shoot a recurve. Some years I've been dead on at 25 yards, them particular years I took 2 different doe's at 21 and 22 yards with perfect double lung shots.

This year Is a different story. My shooting has really suffered this year. I can't for the life of me get consistent enough from 15 to 20 yards to be shooting deer at that range. Anything under 15 yards will be toast this year. Anything over 15 yards might get a pass unless I get my consistency and confidence back where It should be and usually Is. We'll see how It goes and how I feel I guess.

I'll go to 40 under optimal conditions no wind, rain with a clear shot and the animal is not on alert. But in reality I put myself 30 yards and under for just about every shot I have ever made with a bow.

So what were his results? Did you find blood? The arrow? The Deer?
Well he ended up killing it. He said the shot was back but caught the liver, and didn't go far. I told him he was crazy after he said he was using his 50 yard pin, and aiming at the top of her back. If you ask me sounds like he got lucky, the bad thing is, I don't know if he's the type of person to realize that. I'm praying for the deer in that area.

I guess it comes down to how comfortable you are with the shot. I have pins set at 20 thru 40 yards at every 5 yards, but thta doesn't mean just because I have a pin for that far I'm shooting that far. I won't shot anything beyond 30 yards and it has to be one helluva buck to get me to shot that far out.

I'd say the lack of a pin for the distance one is shooting SHOULD throw up a red flag.
