What's down in those bottom fields near that one lone pushpin to the south?

I would be comfortable hunting any of the spots I have marked in red on a Northwast wind, considering you can set up a stand in the dark or have prior knowledge.

Oneshot...

Hey thanks. I'll level with ya.....

Your most NE stans site....I don't have a clue which tree I'd get in. It's mostly pines, there....and REAL thick. I just don't think I could get in a good one, there.

Your furthest NW stand....I'v ehunted there....but again....I don't think I could find it in the dark. It's really a thicket, there....and there are only two trees that are big enough to get a climber in. They all pretty much look the same.....so I'm just not sure I could find one of the two. Just being honest.

Your SW stand....I'm SURE I could get in there. It's the back side of where I was, tonight. It's pretty open in there.....and "who knows?". The only bad thing is.....it's inside the cow pasture...and the fence above it is not easy to cross (no "openings". I just don't know[X(]

Your stand nearest the road.....is right behind my landowner's house....and it's inside the fence, too. I've never....and I bet NO ONE has ever hunted from there.

I suppose it would be worth a try. Again....I'd have to just pick a blind tree in the dark, though. In that spot....I'm not adverse to that.

The small block of woods sparked my intrest. I have seen bucks bed down in a small block of woods because of the lack of pressure to the smaller block. (I can carry you to two spots and prove that, unfortunately I can not hunt either spot, only spotlights) If you can get in there, they may use the woods to sniff the field out that is up above them, and could be a good spot to catch a buck checking the wind.

Checking the wind for what?

Serious question.

Any foreign odors that may be in the field, getting blown back into the block of woods. It is more common for Bucks to use this method during the Rut to scent check for does in the fields. AKA staging area

Jeff get somewhere below those far western pushpins........the furthest one left has my interest.

If those are beans, they're secluded beans, get back away from them off that inside corner in that little triangle field.
You have to think AWAY from the fields right now for Am hunts(no offense Oneshot)
By the look of the different color woods it looks like there might be some transition there between 2 types of cover or a bit of a depression angling SSE away from it?

That's where I would concentrate.

I gotta tell ya....I'm a clean slate when it comes to stuff like this (and I know about scent checking during the rut.....but I had to ask 'what for'....in Sept)......so I'd sit in there in a minute if it sounds like a good idea. Now I just gotta get in there. I have no idea how I'm gonna be able to do that.....lol. I can really only enter down the road....from the N.

It's a pretty small woodlot, though....maybe 4-5 acres....and partially fenced.

You think it's worth a go?

None taken as they are not in the field in the AM, for the most part, they are traveling from. I was taking it as an overall stand location choice for a NW wind. I still believe that the small wood lot can be used as a great spot for the rut.
