Razor Sharp
When I took my bowhunting course the instructor said to only shoot razor sharp broadheads. Then of course we went into saftey. He said that he knew a guy who cut himself on his broadhead and didnt notice the pain but the blood first. Is this a likly story? I have also heard that sometimes a deer will act like its hasnt been shot either. Does anybody have some first hand expierence with this subject atl all?

yes its true....
many people stabbed and cut by knives dont realize it until they are covered in blood sometime later... watch a bunch of hunting shows....ive seen it many times in videos the deer doesnt know what happened...trotts off and stands there and then falls over dead... my only bow kill went 15yds or so...trotted the distance..stood there and i watched his legs buckle and he fell over dead...did hear him suck air a few times on the ground...but i believe he had no idea he was shot...trotted at the noise and movement i made... |

the first deer I ever killed with a bow walked off like nothing was wrong at all. I thought I had missed him clean until I got down and saw an arrow covered with blood he fell within sight down the hill from where I shot him.

Yes it can happen and happened to me.
I was in my ground blind at 5AM. Very dark but getting things set up. I placed my arrow that i was going to nock standing up against the side wall of the blind. I bent over to pick something off the ground and the arrow fell over against my head (i have a bald head). I barely even noticed that happened and went on my way gettin g set up. Next thing i felt something warm running down my head into my face. turned on the flashlight and wiped my face and head with a towel and it was covered in blood. Not very deep and about20 minutes of direct pressure and it was completely stopped but i was amazed that the blade did that given how it only tipped over about 12 inches and leaned agains my head. The same thing that causes your neck to bleed (in your case, an electric shaver that was in your stocking for Christmas) is the same thing that causes the deer to bleed without knowing it...hemorrhaging. |
