First kill on the new property! (2nd pic is really graphic due to Rage)

Well tonight I wet out to one of the new properties I got permission to hunt. I got out there around 4:30 and went to a stand i hung 2 weeks ago. Well my night started off bad because the owners dog followed me all the way to my stand. After i got up in my stand the dog decided to run around the woods behind me. The next thing I know I hear putting and purring. I look over and there are tons of turkeys on the other side of the fence(Neighbors field). Apparently they werent afraid of the dog because they went under the fence and chased the dog off making the fighting purr sound the whole time. I ranged one of the trees at 30 yards and decided to shoot if they came there. Well they never made it that far so i ranged where they were and they were at 36 yards. I drew while sitting and settled my 40 pin a little low and released. The arrow went over it just barely. I grabbed another arrow knocked it, and ranged them again at they were right at 40 yards now. I drew and took my time and settled in on one that was in the opening. I let my arrow fly and my rage broadhead found its mark, putting her down in seconds. My first turkey that I have recovered with a bow. I am pumped up right now!

Here she is....The toms stayed out of range, but I dont care...she will taste good.

Rage destroyed her....really graphic

Your honest opinion, was the rage overkill for turkey? It did a great job no doubt maybe too good for a turkey. Congrats

We're allowed two turkeys along with our two deer during fall archery... Not to mention our unlimited does.

Nice shot, Matt!

Yeah, but you've gotta pay $7 per tag.:D:D I only get to take one turkey during archery deer season in Tennessee, but I'l be in Missouri bowhunting from 11 - 14 November, so if a turkey walks by and I can get to full draw....[8D]

MOmightymite, itlooks like you developed some kind of exploding tip for those arrows! Nasty, butGREAT SHOT!!!

Thanks guys! I guess the 3d this summer really paid off. As far as rage being overkill for turkeys, I would say it was. I didn't think I was going to get much out of her. I did manage to get get the majority of the breast meat, so i will be having fried turkey sometime soon.:)

Yea when i heard them start putting I thought the gig was up, then the chased the dog off. There ended up being like 20 turkeys altogether so maybe they were feeling ballsy.

RE: First kill on the new property! (2nd pic is really graphic due to Rage)

Tribal, ill give you what i know on this to. My Indiana bird fell to a Rage through the wing joint at 18 yards. It did take a pretty good hunk of meat, feathers and vitals out the other side :)I was using a fairly light arrow with them, 352 grain total with the rage. What impressed me was the fact that it did not go all the way through but stuck half way in and half out. This is a good thing for turkeys IMO. An arrow staying in a bird will help with keeping it broke down and on the ground. so for me, two blade Rage, light arrow ==good combo for turkeys. My taxi did not have a problem with the damage either. Good job again Matt ;)
