Cool Sit

Hunted a new woodlot for the first time, tonight. Got in at 1:30.....and saw my first three deer at 4:00 (marked D on the map.....3 does). At 5:30.....I saw 2 BB's and a yearling buck (Marked B on the map). What was funny is the one BB was bigger than the yealring buck....lol.

6:15.....I see a house cat stalk up and lay under a pine. Whenthe first squirrel comes by....the fight was on. he had him for a second....lol.

I stand about 6:45 and blow out two deer I hadn't heard or seen, behind me (marked U on the map). They didn't blow....and my only solace is I know one of them was a very small deer. I'm hoping they were a doe and fawn.

All in all, though....a successful first sit, there. 8 sightings....and they were all in bow range. I could have shot at any of them (all within 20yds).

I'd already decided I wasn't gonna take does, here, though.

You are making me envious. Day 1 is next Saturday. I am moving in to kill something instead of playing it safe like I usually do on day 1.

You got some awesome spots from the sounds of things. Heak in this part it feels good to be able to hunt a differant spot. Land is hard to find in here due to ignorant hunters and what they did in the past.

Shouldn't you mark those "P" for Poptart? ;)

I think that most of it is Jeff's ability as a hunter to understand deer movement and activity ... he has learned more in his years in the deer woods thanalot of guys learn their whole life ....it's all about being a student of whatever it is you set out to do ..... that's what sets apart the successful ones from the unsuccessful ... those who are willing to keep learning, and those who dont

Jeff, I had a bobcat come in and bust up the turkeys who were working their way into my set this morning.A little closer and I would have had him instead. I see a couple of them every year out there, I am determined to get one with my bow. Tried to call him in with my fawn bleat, but no dice.

Had two forkies get into a shoving match right under my stand while it was still dark this morning also. That was fun to watch. Had a slam-dunk shot on a doe this morning but didn't even draw, have a little more venison to get out of the freezer first, and a long season to go.

Matt: "Poptart".....Guilty! (no one gets that...but I just got slammed from 3-4 states over....lol!);):D And....I deserved it!

PT: Thanks. It was great to talk to you Saturday.

Gri22: "monster"? Where? WHo? Here? LOL....all I can do is hunt what's here. I'm having a blast, though. Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Cool deal Critr. I'm gonna have to check my regs (it's that time of year)...in case I see a bobcat. Not sure...but I think they come into season sometime in Oct., here.
