Getting rid of dead bodies....
One thing I overlooked. What do you all do with your carcasses? I couldnt think of a decent place to get rid of it, so I dumped it in a known coyote stomping grounds. I hate to feed coyotes, but I really couldnt think of anything better to do with it.

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
Where I live they are considered municipal watse and are bagged up and put out with the regular curbside trash.
|
RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
I have the pleasure of taking them out to the back 40, in our established dumping spot...
|
RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
We have a pit that we dump them in on our place and it does make a good place to kill a couple hogs or yote's too!
|
RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
i dump mine in a corner of my property and have a cam set up just to see what kind of critters are on my land. you would be surprised. just make sure its not near someones house. you get a hot day and they will be cussing you when it starts to stink.

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
Let me first say this topic is brought up from time to time and it is the most hilarious thread I have ever read on here. For some reason all of these posts crack me up. I have often wondered this same thing and I love the fact that leaving a carcass and guts in the woods is a perfectly acceptable way of dealing with them.
I have also been curioius to see just who shows up to do the clean up work. It's amazing that it gets disposed of so quickly. Also it is "all natural" so it has the green thing going for it as well. lol Yes, I agree with not doing it near peoples houses if you can help it. Sometimes it would be kind of difficult I imagine if you are hunting backyard bucks?! |
RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
I have a DOT dumping area and I asked the DOT to dump carcasses.

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
My father in law will literally stuff the head legs and everything else into his curbside garbage cans. Picture driving down the street of a nice upper class subdivision and seeing two garbage cans with legs and a deer head protruding out of the top of them. No joke he won't even bother trying to bag it or break it down into smaller pieces. I think he likes to upset his uptight neighbors.

Leave them in the woods, worms gotta eat too...

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
LOL....My father in law is retired...and we DO live in the "country". He lives baout 1/2 mile away....and I took Matt's doe over there Friday and dumped it. When I took the two does over there this morning....He asked me if I'd dumped the doe on his back lot.[:o]
"yes"....."Did I dump it too close to the house"? "NO!"...."Put these closer" He thinks he's gonna get a shot at a yote.....and in his defense...he sees more than most.;) |
RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
have a big pile of bones out in the woods
|
RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
Someone doing a google search is going to be awful disappointed when they realize this is about deer...
...btw, I like to put the carcass over a saw-horse overnight with legs dangling so it freezes, then in the morning drape the hide back over it an set it under someone else's stand... ...ok that's not true, I've never done that, but I hear it's hilarious with coyotes in a field |
RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
my uncle has a burn pile back by the woods that i have dumped the carcasses off at before but since i have worked on hog farms with compost facilities the last couple years i have just mixed them up in the compost which makes things easy and helps out the land when reintroduce as fertilizer

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
You could do what every one around me, just find a good winter wheat field and drag it out about 15-20 yards for everyone to see and leave it. we just take them out to the edge of our lease and leave them for the coons. possums. and coyotes and what ever else to eat. by the end of the year it looks like someone broke open a couple down pillows since this is our duck and goose dumping sight as well. this year a camera is going over it.;)

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
We dig a trench with the backhoe an cover with a shovel as we go.
|
RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
Throw them in the outdoor wood stove, they burn hot.
|
RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
Well after were done getting all the meat off we possibly can, we let the cats clean up the rest of the meat on the bones, then take the bones and let the dogs have em. anythign the dogs wont eat or shouldnt get taken out to the woods for other critters to naw on. nothing wasted.

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
I can bag them up and have them picked up with the trash, but the woods is a good place too. What I can't understand is why anyone would want to throw them in a river or creek. Every year I hear about a few. Just toss them a few yards into the woods.

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
Theres a treeline between 2 sections of land thats a nice spot. Coyotes take it from there.

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
A lot of the bones end up going to the dogs. Often I freeze a couple and break them out for the red dog to work on a bit at a time. He enjoys it. What little bit there is that I cannot use is either committed to the pond (low lying water retention pond... feeds the turtles) or taken to a clubs designated dump spot. All depends on exactly where I took the deer.

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
Well our land borders up to State land in the back corner of our property where there is an old county road... so that's where we dump all are dead bodies... but a few years ago some mong people found that old road and were camping out there one weeked and we had shot a deer that friday night that night we found out they were camping back there when we dumped it off on OUR property not the state land... and im not sure if they had good luck but when we went back there after the weekend was done they had taken the deer body which was just bones cuz we try to take as much meat as possible... it was so weird but atleast it was some use to them...

RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
Ill put it in a left over dog food bag and throw in right in the trash
|
RE: Getting rid of dead bodies....
We put them in a designated spot on our lease along with waterfowl, turkey and upland bird carcasses. Like others have said, it makes for some fun coyote shooting.
