any ideas
guys. I traded my ford for a chevy with 7 inchs of lift. so getting a deer in it will be a some work. I bought a game cart. i thought about taking some 2x4s or 2x6s and using them for ramps. then i had a hillbilly idea must be from my days in KY.
i have a old jetski trailer i do not need. I thought about taking it apart and using the two main beams. to make a hoist. There are a few places i can mount it to my truck with out much trouble or damage to the truck. First i though take one run up the side of the bed on the inside. Then take a swivel like a short boat seat swivel and mount it to the first beam. Then run a short piece say 24 inch's across the top of the swivel. and use a hand crank to crank the deer up and turn it into the truck. What do you think of the idea. Would a boat seat swivel hold up or what should i use for a swivel. also if i cranked the deer up by the head or front feet would that aid in gutting the deer when it was vertical. i would think if you cut it open the guts would fall right out. Also how long would the main beam need to be if the bottom is on the bed of the truck for the deer to clear the bottom of the bed |
RE: any ideas
I think you should shoot a deer first.
Seriously dude, just shoot a deer, gut the damn thing, drag it back to the truck, and toss it in the bed. Not that hard. |
RE: any ideas
You are 6'5"!:D
Wrap a rope around a doe's neck....or grab a buck by his antlers and drag it in! NO PROBLEMS! |

RE: any ideas
the side of the bed sits eye level so just grapping it and tossing it in will be a chore

at the hieght of the truck i will have to dead lift the deer either picking it up and tossing it in the 51/2 foot high bed or pulling it up to the point where i would be lifting it all the way off the ground.

RE: any ideas
Mount a boat winch in the back of the truck. Or even rig up the winch on a board and put some brackets in the bed of the truck. Boat winches are super cheap, like $30 bucks, and will give you more than enough power to load a deer.

RE: any ideas
Why not just modify the jet ski trailer to act as a small trailer to haul stuff including deer??????? Seems easier to me to weld a bed and rails together, then to take it apart to build something different. I don't think the seat bracket will hold, you need something heavier duty.

WHAT YOU LOST THAT DEAL FORD FOR A CHEV. eh AND IF IT WAS DIESEL MAN WOW.
proud owner of ford 7.3 Stage 3 injectors and 165hrs chip pushing 500hrs last truck pull 280ft for a 3rd place finish!!!!!!!! |
RE: any ideas
I bought a "hitch hauler" it is abracketthat slides into your receiver. I carry it in the back of my truck all season then slide it in when I need it. It is plenty big to put a deer on. I hunt alone all of the time.I am able to put any deer on it by myself and take it to where I'll hang it.

RE: any ideas
I seem to remember saying you were trying to lose some weight. Get to a gym and do clean and jerks, and rowing. That will help you with dragging and lifting a deer. Kill two birds with one stone!

RE: any ideas
there were issues with the trailer the trailer were shot my dad back up forgetting it was back there and bent the main bar that mounts to the hitch. It was heading to the junk yard any way

the ford was a 1990 f150 straight 6. There were some issues with it the cruise would not work and the speedo would bounce around. And the 4x4 had trouble disengaging. all due to a dumb mechanic. they are both gas.
The chevy's body is almost mint. there are a few issues with it but all cheap fixes. Tim dont worry about it once you kill your deer you will have no problem getting that deer in the bed! Throw it in there!! If you have to stand in the bed and PULL it in with your drag rope, it's not as hard as your making it out to be!! Hunt now worry later!!
Good Luck |
