AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! ! ! ! Not good ! !

Well guy's look like my bow season has come to an abrupt end today. Here is was trying to insert a string leech on my bow, I went to turn around and pop crack and snap. On the floor I go. Went to the hospital, looks like I tore my ACL in my knee[:@][:@]. Tonight was going to be the first night to hunt. What a total drag.

You know how much force it takes to completely tear your ACL? Usually a ton. I tore both of mine playing college football. I could not imagine tearing an ACL by turning around......put some ice on it, it is probably just partially tore. I know me, I would be out hunting even if my ACL was torn.

Did you already have an MRI done? Or did some Dr. just palpate the area and tell you his diagnosis. If you went to the ER and the on duty Dr. is who gave you the news, I would wait til the MRI results came in before you jump to conclusions. There are some ER Dr.'s out there who will say just about anything. I mean they are going to refer you to a specialist, so who cares if they are right or not.

Sorry, just haven't had good results with ER doctors.

BTW, I am a coach, so I know how they tend to err on the side of caution.

Besides ,without an MRI it could be a PCL, LCL, MCL, or ACL. Hell it may even be your meniscus. Sorry, just sounds like you got some off the wall answer.

RE: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! ! ! ! Not good ! !

I am going with JB on this one--I say its your outer meniscus. Probably from an old injury you never new you had or maybe some weak cartilage.

BTW a meniscus can hurt pretty bad. Good thing is, they can clean it up with a scope.

if i truly tore my ACL, the last think i would be thinking about would be hunting, if you really tear it off, it hurts like a bitch, it would feel like rorys balls after every1s sack punches. You would not be able to type if you did. But here i am assuming you didnt, Hope you didnt tho so you can hunt

I'd tape it and wear a brace and hunt from the ground if I couldn't get up a tree. Take some painkillers and get your butt out there, excuses are for sissy's!

That sucks, but I'm not sure that it's and ACL tear. If it is then damn!
Either way, good luck to a speedy recovery.

You can still get out with an ACL tear, I'm proof of that.Elevate, ice, and heat, then get you a good brace and get out there.
Good luck man.

Having tore my ACL in both knees playing football also, your post would have been laced with this $(%*(#)(*R**$((_)(R$*(W#***E.... Becausethat is the most painful thing I've ever had happen to me, I think you maybe tore some cartlidge (sp) or twisted it pretty good. On the bright side you should be able to hunt even if you did tear it up, after about 3-4 days it will fell as if nothing ever happened, just remember to wear a braceto support any side to side movement because you won't have that anymore. So pop some Advil, put on a brace and get out there, just don't do "stupid" stuff.

At least its your knee and not an elbow or a shoulder. Ice it for a couple of days and I bet you find a way to hobble out there and hunt from a ground blind. Good luck with it.

My lady just went through this about 5 months ago. Most likely you'll have some time before the surgery and you won't be able tohurt yourself more. Find help to the stand and get a buddy to track. It doesn't have to end if you have the means...

Tough luck either way though man.

Yeah I have to go to the ortho surgen on Monday to get the MRI. I'm with you I don't have much faith with the ER doc's. But man I'll tell you one thing I've never felt pain like this. It deffinatly got my attention. They thought it was the top of the humorous where it makes contact in the joint area. They thougt I broke the top of that bone off. But it wasn't. So he said it was more than likely going to be the ACL.

It really suck's. So it looks like its time to practice shooting sitting down.;) I will find out more on monday. Here is the kicker. I got the best ground I have ever got. It's a pumpkin farm like oak hardwoods, has a stream and a pond. Just an amazing area.

That's so untrue, you can do a ton more damage.

I hate being off my feet. I can't stand still for more than a minute. So this is killing me. I've got to do something. I need to make a stand for my bow press. That shouldn't hurt anything...... right?

RE: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! ! ! ! Not good ! !

Alright, now first and foremost, the "HUMERUS" is in your ARM, not your leg.

Ok, now that we got that out of the way, Charlie is RIGHT, you CAN do much more damage, DO NOT gimp around on it!!!! Use crutches, and remember that "If it hurts, it's probably damaging something!!!!" You're body is smarter than you!!!!

You sure it's not just a meniscus tear?

I tore mine last August, dealt with the pain and went hunting. Had the surgery this past February. The Doctor told me as long as I could take the pain, I could hold off with the surgery. He said to make sure I only made controled movement that I could stop if I happen to get pain. He also said no climbing :D. He said if the tear got worse it was no big deal, he would take care of it also. Had the MRI and everything right away though.

I'd advise also to get one of the coolers that pump ice water into a pad on your knee. THey work great. Way better then pure ice.

I tore my ACL and meniscus onSept. 27th of 2004 playing in a softball game[:@]. Man that sh*t hurts!!! Thought my deer season was over. I went and got my MRI done as quickly as possible and then had the surgery 2 weeks later. Surgery went great and was on rest fora little undera month. Got the staples out and put the camo on. FYI, camo duct tape works great on covering up crutches;). I was out in the ground blind by the end of Nov. Ended up taking a doe and a small 9pt that year. Hope it turns out that it's only the meniscus, but I think you'll still be able toget out this season. Goodluck to you!

Those things are awesome! I still have mine and still use it when my knee flares up every now and then.

ya not fun man....I am 3 months out of my surgery for Torn ACl, MCl, Lateral Meniscus, Carteledge(Sp?), and Fractures of my patella, Lower Femur, and upper tibia......Got kicked in the side of the knee whilst trying to make a hard cut in a soccer game.....I feel your pain. Brought the soccer career to an abrupt end and put the firefighting on hold for about 8 months.

Agree... If it is your ACL, that is the ligament that attaches your knee cap to the leg bones. You could end up doing some major knee damage if not taken seriously.
