I suggest a non-mechanical, solid-welded broadhead where the blades meet to form the point, 100g or 125g, and long so it has less drag on contact.

If it is sharp, flies true and holds together it'll kill. Sharpening and keeping the Montecs sharp takes some effort but if you know how to put an edge on something it's easy. If you don't know how, don't have the tools, or aren't willing to put in the effort to keep them sharp then get something with replaceable blades. I love my Montecs but they aren't any silver bullet. They're just as toast after hitting something as my old Thunderheads were and they cost twice as much.

I'd hafta agree w/ Kodiak. Sharp and true is best. Its 99% shot placement anyway.

If you take the high percentage shots, almost any broadhead made today will do the job. Take a poor shot like quartering to you, hard angles, and so forthI dont care what broadhead you use it will end badly most of the time.
More research on lower profile fixed blades is being done to help with arrow fight. This is encouraging to fixed blade shooters. The mechanicals are also getting better due to the research being done today. The Rage is one example as well as the Rocky Mountain Snyper. TheSnyper has been around for a while, the rage just has more marketing behind it, basically the same head. (Rear deployment.)

I have almost always shot a fixed blade. Thunderheads andMuzzy. This year I am trying theSnypers.2 blade.

Well ok.. Hmmm montec makes an arrow sharpener. So i dont think keeping an edge will be tough.

I shoot slick trick 4 blades 100gr. They fly just like my field tips at less than 30-40yards. I ordered some grizz tricks this year and hope to update you on those soon. Its good to get advice from othersthat have shot various brands, types, etc but it comes down to trial and error with what works with your setup. Good luck

The 300 spine in the Easton line of arrows is the heaviest spine... So I'm assuming that you are fine there. As for the broadheads I use the Rage 2 blade and I love them. Make sure you are shooting enough K.E though. I can't comment on the Montecs though.
