RE: Im Hurtin'
If anyone remembers these photos form last year.....they show a similar shot placement wound on a doe I hit on a hard quartering shot. I found the deer dead, over a week later.....and not from this wound. She'd gotten caught up in a pasture fence. She was not dead the day before these photos were taken. I hunted that spot the day before.
It won't make you feel any better about injuring her.....but if you hit her where you say you did.....you should know she'll probably be fine. ALL we can do is try our best.......shoot ethical shots....and give it our ALL on our recovery efforts. We can't....and shouldn't be EXPECTED to do any more. All we can give them is our respect and our "all" in our recovery efforts. That's what we owe them. I hope you get to see her again.....in better circumstances than mine. I KNOW (in my heart) I didn't kill this deer. I still think about the shot, though....and I had no limb to attribute mine to. Get back on the horse, Jenna. You're a good little huntress. How I found her...... ![]() Close-up of the wound. ![]() |
RE: Im Hurtin'
Get thru the mourning and sadnessthat comes from wounding adeer then put it out of your mind the best you can and get back in the stand. We've been there before too, some more than once.

ORIGINAL: JoshKeller ORIGINAL: bawanajim ORIGINAL: JoshKeller If taking up for your friend when the first post is a typical bawanajim smartassed answer, then yes, i am a jerk. What was smart azzed about getting good help and getting back out there? Ask Matt how long he looked for his buck. You wont find it sitting on the computer? So searching in the dark is much better? I think the whole purpose of her post was to get encouragement and perhaps just vent about injuring a deer, not get told to get off the computer and go stumble in the dark with a very weak blood trail. |

Hi Jenna - I just saw this.
I don't think I could say it any better than several already have... so I will not even try! Keep you chin up! |
RE: Im Hurtin'
I had a rocky start to my deer hunting career, I injured and lost two deer with a shotgun in consecutive years and was really getiing discouraged. But rather than giving up I spent more time a the range, saved for better equipment and did more pre-season scouting. I let my failures become a motivator and last year (my 4th year hunting) I took an 8 pointer 16 inch spread with a bow and ten pointer with a rifle. People make mistakes all you can do is learn from them and let it make you a better hunter. get back out there and good luck!

RE: Im Hurtin'
Most have said it, but I'll say it again. Everyone looses a deer, if you haven't then you're just plain lucky. Deer are pretty resilliant animals. I've seen countless deer taken during the firearm season with arrows broken off in there shoulders, broadheads even still in them. With how high that hit was and with the Velocity taken off by the branch. I wouldn't worry. If you but in your best effort then you have nothing to worry about. It happens in hunting. Get back in the stand and good luck! Im sure your next one will be a clean kill!

RE: Im Hurtin'
Stick with it. I shot my first deer at 11 years old with 40 pounds. Stay in that 20 yard range...and arrow placement...placement...placement...thats where its at. 40 - 80 pounds...thats where its at.
