Have you shot an opening day archery buck?
 

I have never shot a buck on opening day of archery season. Closest I have come to shooting a buck on opening day is day 5 of the season when I shot a 7 point, 5 years ago or so. How about you?

Cool Steven..what was that buck doing the day you shot it? Moving to feed late in the day? Catch him coming back in during the morning? Field? Deep woods?

Our opener in Illinois is Oct 1st and unless it falls on a weekend I do not hunt. This year it's a Wednesday, so Oct. 4 will be my opener. Still looking for my first buck with a bow...

That's ok--I have passed bucks up as well on opening day because they were not what I was looking for.......not that I am a monster buck hunter but not just shooting to shoot you know.

Never during bow season. I've shot a few during the opener of the PA rifle season. Last year I passed on two nice mature doe's opening morning of archery last year. Not sure why[&:]

Yes I have and one of my best. It was a 145" 13 pointer a few years ago. I could have shot a small 7 point still in velvet this year also, probably with a rock or a knife as he was right underneath me. But season is just starting and I like sitting in my tree. lol

I've never taken a buck the first day of bow season , i've had alot of chances to do so but wanted to see what was out there.But there been alot of time i've left the woods asking myself why didn't you shoot ,again it came down to i just wanted to see what else wasout there.

My first ever buck was an opener kill. It was warm and I was young must have been 16 or 17, only about a 100 is buck but happy with it. no picture or rack, house burned down.

i was hunting my favorite funnel about 80 yards from a big beanfield and on the other side of me was bedding(about 60 yards from the stand), the funnel is about 100 yards wide and 800 yards long witha giant ditch in the middle ofthat keeps the deer on one side or the other and the side with the my stand is the one were i see most deer passing through

A few years ago I shot a 125" 8 pt. Sept. 17th, opening day in Wisconsin. He came in to get a drink from the pond I was sitting on.

Never shot one opening bow.... Have opening shotgun though. I'm a little more picky during bow season. Not that I wouldn't, I just haven't had the right buck come by.

Nope!! I've let a handful of them walk through out the years on opening day being they weren't P&Y class bucks. I don't hunt early In the season just to often but I think that's going to change this year and In the coming years. One year I had a 125" to 130" buck come with In 25 yards of me and turn broad side on opening day. That was tough to watch him being he was a tad out of range for my recurve.

Some day I hope to shoot a Booker buck on opening day. That would be cool as hell! The mount would look so much nicer In detail being he'd still have a summer coat.

only hunted 2 archery openers....first one i was "kicked" out of my spot...(lonnng story) hunted another spot but not where i wanted to be and not in good early season woods..didnt hunt long either had to get back to the farm to report the guy that kicked me out lol....(pretty sure he shot a biggun sometime that day from the spot i was originally in!)

last opener, had a shot, but muffed it up before i could take it....


id like to take one this opener....i know i will learn more from HUNTING and not from SHOOTING...but, this is my last year of college and i gotta carry a B average...an unfilled buck tag is just a burning temptation to do somethin other than school work :D

With the amount of pressure my areas recieve I live and die by the first 3-5 days of the season.

I try to get on their summer patterns as much as I can and whack one before they pull out their nightvision gear.

In fact I think my last 6 PA bucks have been killed in the first 3 days of the season, with last year's being the first one on the actual season opener.

Got one opening day in '06 in IL.

I also got one on my first time in the stand in 2000, but it was not opening day.

Maybe 8 or 9 years ago I shot a nice 7 point in velvet. He was running with 3 other bucks at the time. He ran into a big snarl of wait a minute vines and his velvet was a mess by the time I got him out of it.[:@] Maybe it was messed up to begin with but I didn't see it.. I did pull some off getting him out though.

No buck on opening day but a couple of doe. Always hope for freezer meat on the opener not that it always happens.

Two years in a row i did. First year was about 45 minutes in and second was 1 1/2 hours in. Both were in the 120-130 rangebut when you only can take one deer, it shortens your season a bit.

I shot a small buck opening day of last season but due to my ownignorance, I didn't recover him [:'(]

Things are different now, that particular series of mistakes WON"T happen again.

No but I took my 1st archery deer ever on the 4th day of the season (Oct.) & my 1st P&Y Buck on the 4th day of the season 25 years later within 100 yds. of my 1st Bow kill . This is the 25 year anniversary, sooooo, maybe I will get a WORLD RECORD.
