Attention Facepainters

Ok, I'm giving ita shot this year. I have never used the facepaint before, mainly, because I thought it was silly...I went through probably 100 bucks worth of face masks, and still havent found one that I like. I found one last year, but lost the only two I had and can't find a match this year.[:@]

So what's the best brand of face paint to use? Which ones wash off with sweat? Which ones wont come off with steel wool....guide me to the ultimate facepaint, Wash this is all yours bud.:D I need to get a pack or two when I buy replacement blades for y strikers tonight...so which should I go with?

I'd tell you which one NOT to get (because you will need steel wool)....but someone will be along in a few minutes and tell you it's the bomb!:D

I finally found a maskI love. Under Armour.

well lets hear it anyway...:D

UA was eh for me...I cant have something covering my hair or I constantly itch and reposition it...half masks are my ticket, the thin stretchy kind...I just don't know where to get some.[&o]

I cant use a mask when archery hunting. I do use face paint because of that reason. I get mine from friends in the USMC. I used to be in so i have quite a few friends that are willing to send me whatever i need/want. I honestly only use the black though. I do something similar to tiger stipes and leave it at that.

TEmbry--I have the same problem with the old head itching. I got a face mask that looks like this a week ago...comfortable as heck. Just keep it around your neck and pull it up when you need it.

I've yet to find a good face paint that isn't messy and that is easy to come off.... I've tried it all andthey allhave theirfaults... Probably the easiest to get off was burnt cork.. Of course its only comes in black ;)

I ordered some in from Robinson Outdoors (Scentblocker) on my last big call-in, intending to maybe use it for elk hunting sometime... I never did use it, so I can't give any feedback... but it looks good. [8D]

I am also going to the face paint this year...for all the wrong reasons...:D

I think it will add some spark to video...and it will remind me of how I hunted in 1986 when I was 11 years old.

I'm gonna use the paint this year for sentimental reasons. Otherwise I use under Armour....its tight to the face and low maintenance.

Hey, I guess GERM wasn't lying, he did have a modeling contract!!!!

TEmbry, I use a Hunter's Specialty compact I picked up at Wal-Mart, and it works just fine, the mirror is ok enough that you can see what you're doing, go with the DARKER stuff on your NOSE, and the more prominent areas, high cheek bones, forehead, etc, use the lighter stuff in the shadowed areas, below eyebrows, top lip, etc. I only wear a "half-mask" of facepaint, the rest of my face/ears is covered with a Neck-Gaiter that I pull up over my head, and then I put a hat on top of my head. I've shaved my head for years, and it's works great for me. I nearly ALWAYS keep my mouth covered, as I believe much of our "offensive" scent is emitted from our mouths, and since I've changed to this method, it seems like my deer sightings have increased probably 25-30%.

H.S. makes the best paint, in my opinion. The stuff in the little compact case thing sucks. Doesn't sweat off, but is a pain to wash off. I'll rub my face raw with a rag trying to get that crap off.

If you decide to buy it, they sell a kit with three tubes; green, brown, and black. Used to be you could find tubes of grey as well, but I don't know anymore. It's not a solid and is more like... well, paint. A little goes a long way. It doesn't sweat off and comes off fairly easily with water and a rag. They also sell little pads to use to wipe it off, but I've never used them.

If it helps, every fall we sell out of those tube kits to the Airforce survival school instructors out here at Fairchild AFB.

Dan,
Baby wipes are your FRIEND!!!! When I was in the ARMY, I was never without a full pack of BABY wipes if I had to go to the field, and as a hunter, I'm rarely any different, baby wipes are my FRIEND, plus if nature makes her call, they're handy for more than facepaint removal, just don't use the same one on your face as your.......

IMO the 99 cent plain black cream found in the Halloween decoration section can’t be beat. Cheap as can be, doesn’t sweat off (and I sweat like mad) and washes off really easy with soap & water. I can’t detect a smell from it either.

RE: Attention Facepainters

I've got tons of compacts and tubes. Too many brands/types to remember all of them. Some sweat off. Others require you to sandblast it off. Raccoon eyes... LOL

It's kinda funny when YOU think you got it all off (esp the oil-based products)....but other people notice that you...uhh...didn't. LMAO I actually walked into work on a court day, in a suit and tie, with big gobs of brown facepaint smudged behind both ears. That was a classy move.

While I can't tell y'all the exact brands I have - I CAN tell you that I'm a huge cheapass, so every tube/compact that I own was probably pulled off of a .99 cent rack or a bargain bin.

For what it's worth - I'd defer to WashingtonHunter on this one. That man is the authority on facepaint.

Dan isThe Undisputed King of Facepaint, if you will.

This may sound a bit girly but you guys who use face paint that can't get it off...... Go talk to your wife or gf and ask them where to get some make-up remover and go get yourself a bottle. It works great!! WCL

Facepaint? Deer can't see like us anyway. Bird hunting yes.

If your going to war yes but hunting? Never heard of that in my life. :D

RE: Attention Facepainters

My advise is to use face makeup (the type performers wear) and not face paint. It is made for people who sweat hard under the lights. You applythe basewith a sponge and the use a brush to paint in camo lines (I just use black). It comes off with a damp towel. BeforeI leave my hunting area, I put the towel over the heating duct in my vehicle for a few minutes and then use it.

Below is a pic after dragging this buck 1/2 mile. OK there was snow on the ground and it was level ground.

Hmmm. have to disagree a bit there. Yes they are color blind but they can see contrasts just fine.. a white face is going to standout like a stop sign compared to a camo face. Ultimately scent is your biggest problem but you should cover all your bases if you can!

Thanks for the offer, but ours has those too. I dont like...like I said I am picky about face masks. Mainly because if you keep any facial hair those type that contour your face itch like crazy....That half mask is tight until your jawline then it just hangs loose to the bottom. Me like. Plus they were like $2. I bought 3 for me and a friend, I would give $5 each to have the rest of the shelf of them now though.[&:]

Im going to try and find a few tubes of that HS paint like Dan said. I found one of my old halfmasks, so if I can keep up with it Ill use it some too.

Should be able to find that stuff anywhere, Trevor. Let me know if you can't. I have three tubes left and just picked up another pack today ($5.95).

Let me know.

I was just giving you a hard time there Grizzly Adams!![8D];) I use to always use face paint all the time but man It gets old wiping It off every night. A light beard takes the shine off the face so that works for me. I may have to throw some paint on again though some time just to bring the old times back. That use to be fun making your own designs on your face. Me and my bro had some good ones!!
