If it's a stand we made at camp, no. They are big enough and have rails so we don't worry about faling out. One rifle season we wanted to check out our montser stand. We did something like 6 guys in the stand and something like 1250 #'s. We'll let Ben give the official number:
If it's a hanger, absolutely. We leave the harnesses attached to the tree and strap in when we climb to the stand. We also ratchet strap the stand to the tree (in addition to the factory chain).

I wear one everytime in the stand. The only time I don't have one on is if I'm climbing into a hang on and I plan on making safety ropes for that purpose as well.
