Aim for the exit hole....an interactive exercise

I went through some of the photos printed from stand and came up with a little "aim for the exit hole" / shot placement thread. Feel free to add your own comments (please do). I think this might help some of the VERY new guys.....but to most of you it will be "old hat".

We'll have to make some "assumptions" on these....and the first is....NO IMPEDIMENTS are in your line of fire. That is for another thread.....whether you would shoot, or not. For this exercise....we'll assume all shots have a cler shooting lane.

No. 1 -

No. 2 -

No. 3 -

No. 4 -

No. 5 - For NO. 5 I'll add the added caveat of you being 20' perched in your stand. I think it shows the importance of aiming for the exit hole, better, to assume this.

No. 6 -

No. 7 - OK.....just for fun;)

No. 8 -

No. 9 - Again....NO IMPEDIMENTS, and I was 23' up....and he was about 25-30 yds.

No. 10 -

No. 11 -

No. 12 -

I may be "off" on a few....but if so it'll stir up good conversation as to why others feel that way.

Purely educational. Is this worthwhile?

Have at it.;)

IMO, you all the shot placements were right on.

3,8,10& 12 have the near leg back ,that is not the time to take that shot.

5 is just a bad angle not a shot I would take.

But the cow drops inside of thirty yards even with a fixed blade .;)

Jeff, Good thread, I have done this with my daughter and wife the past couple of years in magazines. I pre-mark the pages and give them a marker and turn them loose, I think it is a good way for someone who has never shot an animal and doesn't know the anatomy very well.....

My only change would be #5. I think it's high.

premise of the thread is we're GONNA take the shot presented. Whether or not the angle is right or impediments exist.....those are itmes for another thread.

Hey MOTOWN....

Chris I made a caveat on No. 5 that we were 20' up on that one. Would that/does that change you rmind on the angle? Interested.

Kyle.....

If you'll go back and look at No. 9 again....the angle is quartering away. The exit hole would ALREADY be in the brisket.....or...in front of the offside leg if shot where I have it marked.

DT....your top photo....is awfully close to the leg....and it'll have your exit hole into the offside shoulder. See my reply to Kyle on your second photo. Your third....refer to what I asked MOTOWN....and remember we're up 20'. Your number 4 is personal preference. I wanted to give myself a little more margin for error....but no issues if you chose that spot. A low miss is a complete miss....and there's nothing wrong with that if you're gonna miss, altogether.

i have to agree with Gmmat.. #5 of yours droptine is quite a bit low for being up in the tree 20'... Maybe you didnt see that part of the picture.. Given if you were at ground level your yellow dot is right on, but for 20' up.. to low.. JMO..
